The Ariel goes to films before Ariels (1930-45)
From the De Fuentes' Revolution trilogy (1933) to the Cannes awarded, Indio Fernandez' María Candelaria (1944), these are the films that would've taken Arieles; they laid the foundations and character for the national cinema, and entrenched into the Mexican culture.
I find it fascinating the mix of both old and new world styles. Eisenstein, Russian, cinema juggernaut in Que Viva Mexico (1933), and Moreno, Spanish, cliffhanger Latin lover from the early Hollywood in Santa (1933), pathfinders or reinforcers of a nascent Golden Age identity.
