The Principal of New Era High School in Panchgani finds an orphan, Raju, who had lost his parents to plague, brings him home, and enrolls him in the school. Raju notices that while every student has parents and visitors, he has no one to call his own. He gets distraught and is assured by the Principal that he does have a relative in Chacha Nehru (Jawaharlal Nehru, the Indian Prime Minister). Raju believes him, and when he finds out through his teacher, Uma, that Nehru will be delivering a speech in Chowpatty, Bombay, he sneaks off in the trunk of a car. Upon arrival he faces harsh realities, his money is almost stolen, and he is befriended by a cynical deranged male, who tells him that Nehru is now a speech-prone politician and is unable to hear what the common citizen has to say. He also tells him that Nehru has left Chowpatty and is at the Government Bungalow. Both take a cab there, but are told that Nehru has departed for Delhi. Raju attempts to go to Delhi but is abducted by Ustad Mansharam and forced to beg on the streets along with a blind beggar, Kavita, who lives with a child, Rani. When Ustad's men blind Rani, Raju attempts to run away with her, but abandons her and sneaks abroad a Delhi-bound train. Upon arrival, he passes out on the street due to exhaustion and hunger and is rescued by a kind-hearted resident who also summons the Principal, Uma, and Uma's fiancé, Rakesh. Together they prepare Raju to meet with Nehru and impress upon him that the very people who are supposed to protect the most vulnerable are, in fact, exploiting them. Will Raju be able to take this message to Nehru?

In order to save her grandfather's mansion, Rama agrees to marry a much older male, Madanlal, who decides to sell some artifacts to prospective wealthy buyers, including Mr. and Mrs. Rai. The sale is hampered by heavy rains and the entry of a traveling painter-singer, Awara, as well as four bandits, including Baldev Singh, who is wanted by the police for the brutal murder of his wife.

Manager Ajay Singh find out that a man by the name of Naresh is murdered and inform police inspector Rai, but all evidences are tampered with at the crime scene and as a result the murderer became difficult to trace. From here on Ajay's life takes a new turn in trying to find the culprit who have murdered Naresh, in the process he meets a young woman, Kiran who have some crucial evidences that might lead Ajay to the culprit who have murdered alcoholic and womanizer Naresh.

Mark Twain's story "The Prince and the Pauper" is transplanted to an Indian setting with all of the essential elements intact.

Shivnath Choudhary lives a wealthy lifestyle in Chandanpur, India, along with his wife, Leela, and 8 year old daughter, Neena. He likes to mingle with poor folk much, especially Baiju, to the chagrin of his wife, who shuns them and only tolerates them as long as they continue to pay taxes. When Shivnath steals money to help dwellers, Leela has the huts burnt down, and forbids him from seeing Neena ever again. Hurt and confused, Shivnath flees to Bombay, where he befriends a man named Mahadev and makes some money entertaining young children, including a girl named Neena. When Neena passes away, Shivnath returns to Chandanpur only to find the village in ruins, and Rukmini, the daughter of Baiju, abducted and being held by Ramdas, Leela's Munim. Shivnath tracks Ramdas down, kills him, and is subsequently arrested and sentenced to prison for 14 years. He passes his time writing poems for Neena and hopes to see her one day when he gets released. Years later, he does get to see her in the prison yard along with her fiancé, Dr. Biren, who is the doctor attached to the prison, but finds that she loathes convicts. He hides his real identity from her, and she subsequently warms up to him and even talks with him about her dad. He also finds out that she is to be married soon. A day before her marriage, Shivnath has a stroke and is hospitalized. The next day he is told that the rest of his term has been pardoned and he is free to leave when he recovers. Shivnath insists on leaving immediately. Seriously ill, and facing the risk of being shunned by everyone will Shivnath make it to Neena's wedding in time?

Orphaned Sanjeev lives with his comically parsimonious paternal uncle, Maniram, who offers to look after him on the condition that a contested Last Will and Testament, will benefit him. When the Court rules otherwise, Maniram stops all support for Sanjeev, who then borrows money from his close friend, Sunil, to complete his education. Then Maniram arranges Sanjeev's marriage with a young woman named Gauri, the only daughter of millionaire Ram Prasad. Sanjeev agrees to this marriage, gets married, and thereafter leaves as he finds out that Gauri is blind. Maniram gets Sunil to convince Sanjeev to return to his wife, so Sunil and Sanjeev go on a hunting trip, where Sanjeev is attacked by an enraged elephant, thrown off a cliff, and believed to be dead. But he survives, and several months later, returns to Maniram's house, where, to his horror, he finds that Sunil has taken over his identity and is now living with Gauri. Watch closely as an enraged Sanjeev decides to find out what really happened after his accident, and the circumstances that made Sunil live with Sanjeev's wife.

The tale begins in the final days of the British Raj in India. A cohort of engineering students graduate a few months before Independence. Satyapriya and Naren are among the graduate engineers. The principality of Bhawanigarh is run by a cruel, dissolute man, Vikram Singh, who knows his days of absolute power are numbered. Satyapriya is the epitome of integrity, refuses to utter any untruth; as a consequence, he and his family face difficulties. It takes a death in the family to bring a reinterpretation of tradition and relationships.

A beautiful street dancer Bijli is in a gang of petty thieves. Sachin is the heir to a heritage household but due to the death of his parents lands up in a orphanage. In the orphanage when the children are ill -treated by the manager, his royal blood automatically singles him out to take cudgels for the rest of the children. He dares to challenge the Orphanage manager and is severely beaten and reprimanded. Meanwhile the servant woman (midwife) who had helped to deliver him, and who stole his mother's bangles and other proof of his royal lineage is on her death bed. She summons the orphanage manager and gives him the proof of Chanda's birth to atone for her sins before dyeing. But the orphanage manager plays mischief and along with the adopted son of the royal grandparents plans to eliminate Chanda. Chanda runs away and joins a petty thieves gang by chance, but is unable to adapt himself to their ways. Soon during a robbery escapade in his own home he ends up in his original house. There, through many twists and turns of destiny -he is able to contact his real grandparents, and also reform all the gang of small time thieves.

This is the story of three brothers Gangaram, Moti and Shiv. Story revolves around Moti who is now an advocate in the big city owing to loan which his brother Gangaram took for his education mortgaging his agricultural land and the relation unfolds between them when moti comes back to his village to and with a surprise.

Tells the story of newly weds Hamid and Salma. They move into a rental flat next door to the local red light district. The flat had been the former home of a well known mujra and qawali singer, Shamshad. Men still come to the door in the hope of seeing Shamshad and do not seem too put out by seeing Salma despite her protestations. The couple struggle to live within the bounds of their own moral code while the earnings of prostitution seem to be flaunted around them. Hamid gets more and more angry and seemingly unable to reconcile his morality with the immorality of the world and at one point beats his wife and then rapes her making her into a 'whore' of his fantasy. The story here bears resemblance to the later 'Ek Chadar Maili Si' by the same director and seems to explore the complex world of women and sexuality as viewed by Indian men: mother, goddess, whore. This film also explores the ethos of prostitution in its reality and as a metaphor for the outside world.

Typically the Jagirdar had wealth, guns and thugs to enforce his will on the people of the village...... Typically the Jagirdar owned everything that he casts his eyes on, including nubile women of the village..... His silky partner in crime is usually the money-lender who smoothly extracts property, jewellery and other assets from the simple farmers, or for that matter share-croppers, when their crops fail, or some other event upsets their precarious financial condition................ This is a story of feudalism in it's raw state. Since this film is a product of the seventies, horse drawn carts (tonga) and a certain simplicity of the village folk is exploited by the Jagirdar and his cohorts..... In comes the only son of the money-lender, a doctor (Sanjeev Kumar)who initially obtains goodwill by curing people, and providing financial assistance for recovery....... But then the long arm of the Jagirdar, his ability to incite the villagers develops the plot of the movie....... With his thugs,he is able to frame the Chowkidar, the doctor and threaten the well being of two women......... The Jagirdar has to deal with the sins of his father, and will he be able to be a man, acknowledge the crime of his father is the story that is pretty much worth a watch.
