Based on the circa 2nd century BCE to 2nd Century CE, Sanskrit play "Daridra-Charudatta" by the famous Indian playwright Bhasa, "Utsav" faithfully follows Bhasa's story-line. Vasantasena, a courtesan who dances at the King Palaka's court hides in Charudatta's house while running away from the amorous attentions of the king's brother-in-law. She falls in love with Charudatta, though he is married and penniless. They have an affair. Meanwhile, the rightful heir to the throne - King Palaka's brother - escapes from prison. While he is being pursued by the king's troops, Charudatta helps him. The king's brother-in-law strangles Vasantasena when she refuses to submit to him and leaves her for dead. When Charudatta tries to have her jewels pawned, he is arrested for her murder. What happens to him and the other characters constitutes the final part of the film.

A 40-year-old married woman falls in love with a young man.

Bhavna is a story of a less privileged women. A lady who was living all alone in the city met a man named Ajay Kapoor in a garden, sketching. They became friends and later on friendship turned into love. Eventually they got married, however, Kapor's dad had not granted permission for this marriage. After bearing a financial crises, Ajay went to see his dad who was residing in another city. Ajay never came back to Bhavna. Bhavna went to that city and was astonished to see that Ajay married another women. Dejected Bhanva came back and started a new job. But this was not the end of the story.

Indu lives a middle-class life with her widower dad. She attends college, meets Raj, and and they fall in love with each other. Raj follows Indu everywhere, including a picnic, to the chagrin of her professor, but Indu shuns her and sings and dances with Raj, then they take off on his motorbike. Some goons attempt to molest Indu, a scuffle ensues, she is abducted and subsequently thrown down a cliff, and the car with the molesters in it explodes. Thinking that Indu is dead, Raj loses his mind and is institutionalized in C.T. Mental Hospital under the care of Dr. Ram Kumar Verma. When Raj gets better, he is discharged, finds out that Indu is still alive, and goes to meet her and attempts to get intimate with her. It is then her husband, none other than Dr. Verma himself walks in, sees them together, and decides to kill them. He succeeds in killing Raj, but before he can kill Indu, he is arrested and institutionalized in the very same hospital where he works. One day he breaks out to finish his one and only mission: to kill Indu at all costs.

The story revolves around, Jayanta, who hails from a poor family. He was brought up by his Musician teacher a village musician and widowed sister in law. Tapas's brilliant voice earns him accolades and lands him in Kolkata City, where he not only earns fame and fortune but gets romantically involved with Rupa, daughter of a rich but corrupt businessman. Dr Sunil Gupta, a gynecologist and Dr. Hira are partners in Prakash Nursing Home. Sunil treats his profession as an earning job unlike his father, who landed up in debt because of treating free the poor patients. Sunils' girlfriend Yashoda too is a doctor working in a government hospital treating the profession as a service. A patient being treated by Dr Hira dies due to his negligence but he saves his skin by firing the nurse. While operating on a minister's pregnant daughter-in-law, Manjula, Sunil is faced with a choice of saving either the mother or child. He opts for the former. The minister, Raosaheb, holds Sunil responsible for the child's death and lodges a complaint with the medical council. Dr Hira too sides with him against Sunil, getting him suspended. Sunil, in the meanwhile, comes to know about the truth of Hira's patient's death from the absconding nurse. Armed with the evidence he files a case in the court and wins. Chastened Sunil decides to follow in his father's footsteps.

A young man takes a journey on a cart through jungles to reach the small hamlet of Bangarwadi, inhabited by a few shepherds, peasants and some members of a criminal tribe known as the Ramoshis. The young man goes there as a teacher. After the initial trauma, he finds the milieu and the environment very inspiring and educative. But then he is transferred to some other school. What remains with him is the memory of the simple folk and their pure nature.

Set on the north eastern coast of India this unusual Indian film mixes the genres of Bollywood (the song) with a toght hard hitting look at Indian society looking at areas of women's place in Indian village society, cross dressing, rape and the history of Indian folk song. These provocitive issues are woven into a story using folk songs to tell the story and in one memorable scene poking fun at the Bollywood style musical number.

Tani and Kamli are two sisters who live in Maharashtra, India. While Tani has married Bhaurao and lives a comfortable life in a village, Kamli has married a male in Bombay, where she lives a poor lifestyle with her brother, Sreepu, and a school-going daughter. After the passing away of her husband, Kamli becomes very depressed and eventually passes away. Sreepu takes her daughter to live with Tani in the village. Shortly after their arrival, Sreepu returns home to Bombay, while an overjoyed Tani welcomes her niece. Her husband, Bhaurao, is not at all pleased with the new arrival. Tani gets her niece admitted in the village school - only girl in the entire school. Her niece's talents go unnoticed by a careless Teacher, Deshpande, who eventually insults Tani and as a result she gets her admission annulled, and gets her admitted to another school run by Jadhav. While this does bring some stability in her niece's life, Tani's life is anything but, as she knows that her husband is having a sexual relationship with her maid-servant, Tulsa. A confrontation does take place and Bhaurao more or less tells Tani that she should resign herself to her situation. The question remains, will Tani really resign herself to this situation, and if not, what will be the outcome for her young and easily impressionable niece?

Harshvardhan Ghodke (Akshay Pendse) and Abhijit Vaidya (Umesh Kamat), are engineering students, who lie to their parents and land up in Bombay to have fun for a couple of days. Unfortunately, they get caught up in such a mess with the law that they can't find a way out. They are framed for a murder they didn't commit. Stuck in a hopeless situation, they look for help everywhere, but no one seems forthcoming until, Keshave Kunthalgirikar (Makarand Anaspure) comes to their rescue. Keshav is Abhijit's uncle who is clumsy and perennially in a mess himself. The drama begins when Keshav, who has never won a single lawsuit, is forced to defend Harsh and Abhijit against prosecutor Advocated Phandnavis (Sachin Khedekar), a formidable opponent who has never been defeated in court. The argument between these two unlikely opponents brings forth, amongst other things, the differences between the rural and the urban ways of life.

Loosely based on the 1957 classic "Dekh Kabira Roya", this is a story of three male friends, Deepak, Vinod and Sanjay. While Sanjay runs a business; Vinod is an ardent cricket fan and player; and Deepak a singer. The three pals meet three young ladies named Neela, Shree, and Sherry, who would like to marry a businessman, a cricketer, and a singer. The dreams of these ladies do come true, and they wind up on a marriage pandal with the love of their lives. But wait, Neela who wanted to marry a cricket player is about to tie the knot with businessman Sanjay; Shree wanted to marry a businessman but ends up with Deepak the singer; and Sherry who wanted to marry a singer ends up with cricketer Vinod. To add to the confusion are gangster Tundabhai, and a Pakistan-based terrorist, Chaman Chindi, who are out to kill Sanjay, Deepak and Vinod, so that Tundabhai can add Neela, Shree and Sherry to his harem - & the result is utter and hilarious chaos.

A young man learns the strange truth about a local outcast in this drama from filmmaker Chitra Palekar, starring one of India's most respected actresses, Nandita Das. Bragirath (Kshitij Gavande) is a bright young boy being raised by his father Narsu (Atul Kulkarni), a superstitious single father who can barely believe what his son has learned in science class. One day, curious Bragirath asks Narsu about Chandi (Das), an odd and unkempt woman who wanders through their village beating a metal pot to warn people of her presence. Narsu tells the lad that Chandi is a witch -- and that she also happens to be Bragirath's mother. In flashback, we are introduced to Chandi as a young and vibrant woman who is given the unpleasant task of overseeing the funerals of the village's children. Chandi sees her job as important if hardly pleasant, but in time her contact with the spirits of the dead has an unexpected impact on her and those around her.
