- DirectorSam RaimiStarsBruce CampbellEllen SandweissRichard DeManincorFive friends travel to a cabin in the woods, where they unknowingly release flesh-possessing demons. The worst case of extreme PMS I have ever seen :D
I saw this movie over twenty years ago and now, because of the "Ash vs Evil Dead" series, I decided to see all three movies again, before I start the show. Classic B horror of the '80s. Fun enough but, to be honest, it's a pretty bad movie. I rate it five out of ten.
5/10 - DirectorJoe DanteStarsZach GalliganPhoebe CatesHoyt AxtonA young man inadvertently breaks three important rules concerning his new pet and unleashes a horde of malevolently mischievous monsters on a small town.Lovable family horror comedy
One of my favorite childhood movies. Easy going horror-comedy, one of the very few that succeeds in mixing those two genres and not ending up as complete crap. The story is smart and nicely told, with good acting and directing. It's entertaining and slightly scary, especially if you are a kid. And Gizmo is one of the cutest things ever shown on the big screen. True family movie from the '80s.
7/10 - DirectorUmberto LenziStarsGiovanni Lombardo RadiceLorraine De SelleDanilo MatteiThree friends set out to disprove cannibalism on a trip to the Amazonian jungle, where they meet two men trying to escape a vicious cannibal tribe."Oh God, please let her die soon. Oh, let her die soon. And let me die soon too, please."
A group of anthropologists travels to the jungles of Colombia to study the tribe believed to be cannibalistic. The tribe is enslaved by drug dealers and, when the enslaved natives freed themselves and started revenge, anthropologists find themselves in a crossfire. The film shows explicit violence, torture and killing, it is not for those with a weak stomach, and it was banned in over thirty countries. It's disgusting in every way and its artistic value is equal to zero, and yet something made me see it through and prevented me from burying it with the rating.

Pre-credits disclaimer: The following feature is one of the most violent films ever made. There are at least two dozen scenes of barbaric torture and sadistic cruelty graphically shown. If the presentation of disgusting and repulsive subject matter upsets you, please do not view this film. - DirectorRuggero DeodatoStarsRobert KermanFrancesca CiardiPerry PirkanenDuring a rescue mission into the Amazon rainforest, a professor stumbles across lost film shot by a missing documentary crew.Only for fans of disgusting footage
For his work on the film, the director was arrested by Italian authorities on suspicion of murder charges and faced life in prison, following its 1980 Milan premiere. He endured a trial when Italian authorities were unconvinced that the footage was indeed staged. Deodato lost the original trial, and all prints were to be destroyed, but he managed to have the ruling overturned in the early '80s when the actors finally appeared on TV to prove otherwise.
Some five years passed before the film saw release in Deodato's home country. This movie was banned for twenty years in many countries.
5/10 - DirectorTom HollandStarsCatherine HicksChris SarandonAlex VincentA dying serial killer transfers his consciousness into a popular kids doll using voodoo. A struggling single mother gifts her six-year-old son the much sought-after doll for his birthday, and the doll slowly begins to show its true colors. One of the '80s cult "horrors". Only when I remember how scary this was to me when I was a kid, and now I can not classify it as horror at all. Although I have no idea where else to put it. The '80s were the golden era for this kind of movies and this one is one of the best in this genre. The only trouble is that watching one of them reminds me of five others and then I have to see them again and then I remember many more and it is a vicious circle that never ends.
8/10 which is basically 10/10 within the genre :D - DirectorRoger CormanStarsVincent PriceMark DamonMyrna FaheyUpon entering his fiancée's family mansion, a man discovers a savage family curse and fears that his future brother-in-law has entombed his bride-to-be prematurely."And the deep and dark tarn closed silently over the fragments of the House of Usher" - Poe
By today's standards this isn't horror at all and to younger generations, accustomed to adrenaline rushes, this could even be a bit boring, but those old horrors, and old movies overall, have some special kind of charms that today's hyper-production can't achieve anymore. The scenario is based on the famous story by Edgar Allan Poe and I think it faithfully conveys Poe's poetics and overall atmosphere, and Vincent Price in the leading role is always a safe choice for this type of movie. Just forget about modern technology, turn off all the lights, preferably on a stormy night, sit back comfortably and imagine that you're reading a book. When dark castle emerges from the fog, eerily lit by a full moon, with storm and curtains carried by the wind, the atmosphere of this classic for all times will drag you into the story and obsolescence of production won't bother you at all.
8/10 - DirectorJoe DanteChuck JonesStarsZach GalliganPhoebe CatesHowie MandelThe Gremlins are back, and this time, they've taken control of a New York City media mogul's high-tech skyscraper.Rarely good sequel
This one has significantly better effects than the previous and Gremlins are more realistic and scary. From the technical quality point of view, it is definitely a better movie. But it is also a completely different movie and because of taste differences, many will disagree with me on which one is better. While the first movie has a somewhat serious storyline, tells the scary tale with some comic reliefs, the second movie is more parody to the first one than it is its sequel. Yes, the storyline picks up where the first movie left, but the tone of the film is completely different. It is not an '80s light horror type of the movie anymore, it reminds more of the "Scary Movie" type of film. It is fast, fun, full of pranks and references to famous fantasy movies and characters, like Batman, Wicked Witch of Oz, and many more. The first one has a much better story, but this one is better produced and more fun.
8/10 - DirectorDaniel HallerStarsSandra DeeDean StockwellEd BegleyWilbur Whateley travels to the Arkham Miskatonic University to borrow the legendary Necronomicon. But, little does anyone know, Whateley isn't quite human...LOVEcraft
Objectively, this movie is nothing special, but it almost perfectly conveys Lovecraft's atmosphere. For true Lovecraft fans, this will be a real delicacy. For the rest of you, this is nothing but mediocre '70s horror.
7/10 - CreatorJohn LoganStarsJosh HartnettTimothy DaltonEva GreenExplorer Sir Malcolm Murray, American gunslinger Ethan Chandler, scientist Victor Frankenstein and medium Vanessa Ives unite to combat supernatural threats in Victorian London."Strikes the perfect balance between Gothic
art-house horror and gory B-movie action.
Well, I'm trying to write a completely spoiler-free review here, but I guess it's safe to announce that 'Penny Dreadful' looks positively gorgeous. Great production design and cinematography: by the time we get to see Victorian London as night descends upon the city and the fog starts creeping through those narrow cobblestone alleys, nearly every frame looks like a beautiful, Gothic painting (and not once did I spot a fake looking CG-background). As far as the actors are concerned, they portray their obscure, troubled characters with a certain kind of "theatre" intensity that fits the story and the turn-of-the-century setting very well.
Story-wise I don't want to give away anything – but of course, there are unholy things lurking in the shadows that need to be fought (and they look rather convincing: the make-up effects are another strong point of this show). Like the iconic "Hammer Horror" films of old (usually starring either Christopher Lee or Peter Cushing – or both), 'Penny Dreadful' draws its setting, characters and general inspiration mainly from some famously dark tales written by Mary Shelley, Bram Stoker and Oscar Wilde (and to a lesser extent from sir Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes stories). And just like the Hammer films - who may seem rather tame now but were shockingly violent for their time - this show is neither for purists of said literary works nor for the faint of heart.
While some scenes are genuinely scary in a tension building, "old school" kind of way, we also get blood soaked action sequences that will probably put off some viewers, but seem entirely appropriate given the show's title (in the 19th century a "penny dreadful" used to be a booklet of cheap, sensational fiction printed on pulp paper which could be purchased for - wait for it: a penny).
My overall verdict: 'Penny Dreadful' dishes out a hefty mix of gory violence, classic horror creatures, sex and action, but it never forgets to build atmosphere. The B-movie elements are undeniably there, but they're deliberate (the title says it all), and this is by no means a cheap affair. Beautifully crafted and with a great cast, I strongly recommend this show to anyone who likes the old "Hammer Horror" movies as well as films in the vein of Tim Burton's 'Sweeney Todd' and 'Sleepy Hollow'.
But not just for the fans of "Goth Horror" is this well worth checking out; I would say that after 'True Detective' and perhaps 'Fargo' this is one of the most promising new TV-shows of 2014."- gogoschka-1
8,5/10 - DirectorNeil JordanStarsBrad PittTom CruiseAntonio BanderasA vampire tells his epic life story: love, betrayal, loneliness, and hunger. The best vampire movie
In an endless sea of vampire vomit, this movie stands as one of the best movies in vampire "genre" and, after every vampire crap I have a misfortune to see, I gladly go back to this one to wash off crap from my brain.
I don't like Kirsten and I hate Tom Cruise, but here both of them fit perfectly. Brad is good by default, I love Christian, and the only issue is Banderas. I simply cannot see him as a vampire, but his role is too small to influence the overall impression.
8/10 - DirectorFrank HenenlotterStarsRick HearstGordon MacDonaldJennifer LowryOne morning, a young man wakes to find that a small, disgusting creature has attached itself to the base of his brain stem. The creature gives him a euphoric state of happiness but demands human victims in return."This is the start of your new life Brian, a life full of colors, music, light, and euphoria. A life without pain, or hurt or suffering."
Original and entertaining story, but once again tragicomic realization. Production is so bad that it hurts. The impression is that the movie is not made by professionals at all, but by a random group of horror fans. Still, as bad as it is, I must acknowledge its originality and strong drug addiction message. I'm not sure if the whole movie is intentionally made as drug addiction metaphor, but it's there. For me, the best scene in the movie is probably the most bizarre scene of "oral sex" in the history of cinematography. You can find it on YouTube.
5,5/10 - DirectorRobert RodriguezStarsHarvey KeitelGeorge ClooneyJuliette LewisTwo criminals and their hostages unknowingly seek temporary refuge in a truck stop populated by vampires, with chaotic results."Well, it's been one long goddamn hot miserable shit-ass fuckin' day every inch of the way"
Why the hell is average rating on IMDb just seven?! Rodriguez, Tarantino, Clooney, Keitel, Lewis, Salma, Cheech,... The story that starts as an action/crime and then suddenly twists into a horror/black comedy... And on top of that unbelievable soundtrack. What more can you expect from a movie?!
9/10 - DirectorMark A.Z. DippéStarsMichael Jai WhiteJohn LeguizamoMartin SheenAn elite mercenary is killed, but comes back from Hell as a reluctant soldier of the Devil.I love the smell of burning asphalt in the morning
To be honest, this movie is a crap, but it has its charms. Spawn has a good make-up and following effects, and the music is quite good. It could be a guilty pleasure if you have surplus time on your hands.
6/10 - DirectorVincenzo NataliStarsNicole de BoerMaurice Dean WintDavid HewlettA group of strangers awaken to find themselves placed in a giant cube. Each one of them is gifted with a special skill and they must work together to escape an endless maze of deadly traps.Disappointment
The amazing original idea which could have been used for making cult classic for all times. The idea that deserves 10/10 is by terrible realization degraded to average trash. Acting is mediocre and sociologically and psychologically movie is a complete failure. Characters are so two-dimensional that viewers cannot relate to them, therefore there's no fear, no tension, no emotions, nothing... There is a single scene that kept me on the edge of my chair, while everything else was just sad cliché. And, of course, the ending is lousy in every way.
There's not much sense in making a quality remake, because originality is the main charm of this story, and this movie completely wasted that awesome idea. When the movie ended I felt sad and angry at the same time. The idea deserves 10/10, the realization is maybe 4/10, so we have a weak 7 movie out of what should have been 11/10 masterpiece...
7/10 - DirectorScott SpiegelStarsRobert PatrickBo HopkinsDuane WhitakerFive career criminals gather in Mexico to pull off a bank heist. They soon realize that they are up against far more frightening creatures than the police pursuing them.Terrible piece of shit
It is difficult to describe in words how shitty this movie is. It's not a horror, it's not a thriller, there's no humor, actors are lame, directing too… Pure action and extremely bad one too. It's hard to believe that Tarantino and Rodriguez approved this, let alone signed it... but they did.
3/10 - DirectorRupert WainwrightStarsPatricia ArquetteGabriel ByrneJonathan PryceWhen a young woman becomes afflicted by stigmata, a priest is sent to investigate her case, which may have severe ramifications for his faith and for the Catholic Church itself."The kingdom of God is within you and all around you. It is not within buildings of wood or stone. Split a piece of wood and you will find me. Look beneath a stone and I am there."
"Stigmata" deals with religious themes of stigmata and the "Gospel of Thomas," the oldest known gospel, which is considered to be the closest to the teachings of the historical Jesus. It is not included in the "New Testament", and the church considers it to be heretical. Although the film makes some historical and factual mistakes, it is not a documentary but fiction, so we can regard them as artistic freedoms, which, even if they do not contribute to the quality of the film, certainly do not diminish its strength. Patricia Arquette excellently portrays the role of a young atheist whose life is headed upside down by the inexplicable appearance of wounds similar to crucifixion wounds of Jesus Christ, and Gabriel Byrne plays a priest sent from the Vatican to investigate her case. The chemistry between them is good and is the backbone of the film, and the powerful explicit scenes of stigmata appearance spice it up with horror atmosphere, although I would describe this movie as a drama rather than a horror.
7,5/10 - DirectorP.J. PesceStarsMarco LeonardiMichael ParksAra CeliSet 100 years ago in Mexico, this horror/western is the story of the birth of the vampire princess Santanico Pandemonium."You have no idea what you have unleashed"
After the second part, I was at the edge of giving up on the third one. But this one actually is not bad at all. It is a prequel to the original movie, it takes place about hundred years before and tells a story about the origins of Santanico Pandemonium. It is far from the complexity and quality of the first film, but at least it is obvious that Rodriguez was directly involved in making it. While he is just executive producer of the second movie, here he is also the screenwriter and, by default, it makes the movie worth watching.
6/10 - DirectorJohn CarpenterStarsKurt RussellWilford BrimleyKeith DavidA research team in Antarctica is hunted by a shape-shifting alien that assumes the appearance of its victims. One of the most overrated movies ever
It is considered to be one of the best horrors of the '80s and maybe even one of the best horrors overall?! If that's true I do not want to see the rest of them. I cannot say it is complete crap, but it definitely is waste of time. Extremely overrated nonsense with no purpose. The basic idea is good, but it's not developed nearly enough. Characters are two-dimensional and stereotypical. The movie has no depth, does not provoke thoughts, cannot be more linear than it is, does not arouse any emotions, there's no tension, and finally, it is not even scary at all. There are movies that are very stupid, but make you crap your pants in fear. Stupid but with purpose. This one is not even that. It is as if people who were accustomed to make only low-class action movies their whole lives suddenly decided to shoot the horror. Linear, shallow and boring.
4/10 - DirectorGuillermo del ToroStarsMarisa ParedesEduardo NoriegaFederico LuppiAfter Carlos - a 12-year-old whose father has died in the Spanish Civil War - arrives at an ominous boys' orphanage, he discovers the school is haunted and has many dark secrets which he must uncover. Not as good as Pan's Labyrinth, but definitely worth watching.

Along with a string of mutilated prostitutes, he uncovers a conspiracy involving the government. In second half of 1888. London was stricken by series of unsolved murders. Out of 11 victims, police attributed 5 to the same offender, that became known as "Leather Apron". Later he became famous world wide as Jack the Ripper. Police had over 300 suspects, but at the end they could not prove anything. Different theories were arriving from all sides for decade and even nowadays some new appears occasionally. From Hell presents one of the most controversial theories that appeared in 1960's.
7/10 - DirectorJean EpsteinStarsJean DebucourtMarguerite GanceCharles LamyAllan visits the sinister Usher family mansion, where his friend Roderick is painting a portrait of his sickly wife Madeline. The portrait seems to be draining the life out of Madeline, slowly leading to her death.Perfect nightmare
This movie is completely different than anything I've ever seen. The plot is pretty much vague and deviates from the original story by Edgar Allan Poe. It is horrifying slow and story itself is inessential for the film, it is just a background for an artistic cinematography. Jean Debucourt is excellent in the leading role while all other characters are dim and unreal, like they are just parts of his dream. I did not like the music background in this movie at all. In my opinion, it does not contribute to the movie, but rather spoils it. But, the gloomy and eerie atmosphere of this masterpiece can not be spoiled. This movie absolutely deserves honorary Best Cinematography Oscar, because the way it is filmed is ingeniously hypnotizing and scenes that flow before your eyes will mesmerize you into a perfect nightmare. Visually speaking, this is one of the very best movies I have ever seen, and not only in the context of the black and white era, but in the whole history of cinematography.
8/10 for the movie as a whole, but 10/10 for cinematography - DirectorAndrew DouglasStarsRyan ReynoldsMelissa GeorgeJimmy BennettNewlyweds are terrorized by demonic forces after moving into a large house that was the site of a grisly mass murder a year before."Houses don't kill people. People kill people."
The film debut of the then eight-year-old Chloë Grace Moretz is a remake of the 1979 film of the same name. This is an average "haunted house" horror, based on true events. Decently done and moderately entertaining, it stands out only with the performance of little Chloë, and especially the scene on the roof, which is the only thing that remains etched in my memory even after five years.
6/10 - CreatorEric KripkeStarsJared PadaleckiJensen AcklesJim BeaverTwo brothers follow their father's footsteps as hunters, fighting evil supernatural beings of many kinds, including monsters, demons, and gods that roam the earth. The very best show in supernatural genre.
- DirectorMichael HurstStarsChristine TaylorShane BrollyJerry O'ConnellA schoolteacher with a phobia of hospitals finds herself searching for her boyfriend inside one while teaming up with a man suffering the same ordeal that she's in.For Chloë fans only
"Room 6" is a film that tries to be a mindfak horror, but fails in almost all fields. The idea is interesting, but so confusingly elaborated that instead of keeping you on the edge of a chair, it will keep you on the edge of boredom. The acting is not good enough to connect us with the characters, the dialogues are poorly written, and the overall atmosphere leaves the impression of an amateur film. Only the scenes with Chloë Grace Moretz have some strength, but no matter how good she is and how much I like her, she can't save a failed movie on her own with just a supporting role. I don't regret spending my time, but I advise you to skip it unless you're a big fan.
4/10 - DirectorJ.S. CardoneStarsLori HeuringScout Taylor-ComptonChloë Grace MoretzKaren, Sarah, and Emma Tunney are all moving to a small town in Pennsylvania where, unknown to them, in 1913, a horrid mine accident trapped dozens of children alive, underground. But there's a problem. They're still alive.Mediocre horror cliche
At the beginning of the twentieth century, the cruel mine owner exploits children, who remain buried underground due to the explosion. Almost a century later, the family moves into a house near the mine and the little daughter starts talking about a new friend. Mother thinks that she has an imaginary friend, but imaginary friends don't eat kids alive...
I watched the film because of then nine-year-old Chloë Grace Moretz, who is the only thing that is really worthwhile in this film. In several scenes, she is really fantastic. As for the rest, I have no major objections, but the film is drowning in mediocrity and does not stand out in any way. A decent horror movie to kill time and nothing more than that.
