The Seventies: A decade of profound change. 22-year-old police typist Siggi is among the first women to apply for a career in the Criminal Police. She has to recognize, however, that traditions are not easily overcome.

Senior constable Jens Jenssen isn't amused that junior partner Süher Özlügül rivals him for his logical promotion, even less to find her suddenly sliming up to their commonly despised commissioner Jan Brockhorst, yet won't return the dirty tricks all the way. Ruthless gangster Voss and Blohm arrive from Hamburg to threaten Süher's father, first-generation immigrant local fisherman Günesh Özlügül, who finds it pointless to deny any drug connections. Jens and Süher learn about shockingly dark Özlügül family secrets, barely in time.

On the couch of the star psychologist Dr. Magnus Sorel, patients pour their hearts out every day. Not far from the skyscrapers of Frankfurt lies the lovely, unblemished Taunus countryside. But there is little peace to be found there now, since an all-out war raging between an anti-wind-power group and the supporters of the wind-energy firm WindPro. When she doesn't arrive for his 66th birthday, the grumpy loner suddenly becomes worried and drives from the provinces to Frankfurt to see how things are. There he meets his grandson Elyas for the first time - but the sarcastic senior citizen and the quick-witted teenager immediately dislike each other. Finally, Horst realises that he has been lured into a trap: Lisa is worried about her father's health and wants to have him examined in hospital. He reluctantly agrees - and receives a devastating diagnosis. When Horst realises that he doesn't have much time left, he calls Johann for help, quickly escapes from the clinic - and with grandson Elyas in tow, the two of them are suddenly on the run from the police in a stolen hearse and on their way back to Sauerland. But the seriously ill Horst doesn't want to simply run away from his fate - he wants to try to come to terms with his life. So the trio sets off on an eventful journey to the places of Horst's past. It becomes increasingly clear that behind his trained loner facade lies, above all, grief for his beloved wife and his lost daughter. The trip to Sauerland represents Horst's last chance to put things back in order.
