The story is symbolic ,as to how marriages are being misused in India since 1938,whence even the independence of India stands threatened and that is why the movie was released in 1974.The 1947 "Tryst with Destiny",stands reverted due to men doing second marriages on the sly and previously in 1757 too the country's independence was taken away by attacking its economy,its women and its religion.Rekha plays an heiress and Navin Nischol ,the forest conservator with the tribals.The movie is of the suspense genre where Nahin Nischal is accused by various women of marrying them and leaving them in the lurch and Navin asserting his innocence.Wbat actually happened is revealed in the end.A good suspense thriller.

Ravi Varma is a single eligible bachelor. He meets with Aarti Mathur, and both are attracted to each other. The problem is that Ravi is unable to express his love and attraction for Aarti, and Aarti unsure of Ravi's intentions, is unsure of his feelings for her. Soon Aarti's marriage is arranged, and it is then Ravi must decide to speak out his feelings or let Aarti's marriage take place, and maintain his silence.

Ruma (Shabana Azmi) and Gopal (Navin Nischol) loves each other and have plans to marry. However, Ruma gets married to Dr. Jeevan (Sanjeev Kumar), much to her father's insistence. Ruma tries to co-op with this marriage but Dr. Jaavan's busy professional life and Gopal's re-entry into her life, makes her lean towards Gopal again. She falls for Gopal. Jeevan's son from his previous marriage, Gopal (Master Raju), watches them in compromising position. Ruma is frightened and kills Jeevan's son Gopal. Gopal is arrested for killing Jeevan's son Gopal. Ruma's lawyer Ram Sinha (Shatrughan Sinha) uncovers the truth and convinces Ruma to accept her crime. Ruma appears before judiciary, charged and arrested.

Rivalry has existed between Ranimaa and a small and hostile community. The passage of time has only widened the gap between the two. When Ranimaa's heir apparent, Seema, attempts to make peace, she is severely reprimanded by Ranimaa. Then Seema meets with Ajay Jain and both fall in love. A traveler decides to assist a woman involved in a murder.

Chandan Singh is a dacoit living with in isolation with his followers Bhairav Singh, Mangal Singh and his wife Parvati amongst others. The police, led by Inspector Ajit Singh are fast on the track of Chandan Singh, and soon catch up with him. Chandan Singh is betrayed by his follower Bhairav Singh, who is killed by Chandan Singh, after he attempts molest Parvati. Mangal Singh shields and protects the son of Bhairav, Chaman, and both swear vengeance against Chandan Singh. Meanwhile, while escaping from the police in a boat, Ajit Singh shoots at Chandan Singh and the shot hits Parvati, who falls into the water, and her son, Suraj plunges in after her. Chandan Singh too dives in after them, but is unable to find them. Chandan Singh takes revenge on Ajit Singh's family and abducts his daughter, Radha, and Ajit's wife, Asha gets killed accidentally. Years later Chandan Singh emerges as Dharma as well as Nawab Sikander, while Ajit Singh is now the Insepctor General of Police. Nawab Sikander goes to the prostitutions area and there finds Radha, who he recognizes and buys from the Madame, and brings her home, and asks Ajit Singh to be her father, to which he readily agrees as she looks just like his wife, Asha. Rajoo is a small time crook who works with Dharma, but has a change of heart when he falls in love with Radha, and swears to be a good person and through the guiding hands of his to-be father-in-law becomes a police inspector, and vows to arrest Chandan Singh. In the meantime, Mangal Singh, Chaman, and Chaman's girlfriend come upon Parvati, who lives in a temple. Chaman decides to impersonate himself as her son Suraj, and after successfully doing this he also manages to fool Dharma into believing that he is indeed their long lost son, vouched for by Mangal Singh. Will Dharma ever be apprehended by the authorities? Will Parvati ever meet her real son? What are the plans of Chaman and Mangal Singh?

Suraj tells his friend Vijay's brother Sanjay to check out the work on the Hotel as it is about to open in coming days. Vijay reaches the hotel after two days and finds that Sanjay is missing, the hotel is inaugurated upon arrival of Suraj, but strange things start to happen in hotel and one by whose involved in matter gets killed.

Aafat has many characters of the world of crime, who are accosted by Amar, but the most significant is Champa, who signs and dances on the street, sells drugs, but makes some mistake for which she pays dearly. Amar and Chaya risk their very lives trying to solve the mystery behind the whole operation. Mahesh and Rajni play their part.

Story of two young brothers estranged during a situational criminal act leading to their long separation. Kiran gives birth to a lovely baby boy, but instantly Suraj gives him up to her Bhabhi Sheela as his elder brother and bhabhi are childless. At first this doesn't go down well with Kiran, but later she understands. Shibu now wants revenge so he goes all around the village trying to spread false rumours about Suraj and his bhabhi having an affair. He also convinces the local Panchayat, but Sheela proves them all wrong in front of Devi Maa and proves her own innocence. Suraj captures Shibu and brings him to Sheela, but she and the whole village say sorry to Sheela, and all ends well.

Sathpura-based Kartar, changes his religion from Hindu to Sikh, enrolls as a rebel to fight the oppressive Mughal rule, goes missing even on his wedding day, and ends up getting married in absentia to Shanno.
