Endless porn parodies and gonzo all-sex videos for Wicked took their toll on director Axel Braun, who delivered this pretentious junker to the label. Expected result: numerous automatic industry awards as hype.
Of the numerous movies from Robert Louis Stevenson's classic horror tale, the best gimmick version is Dr. Jekyll & Sister Hyde with Martine Beswick. Braun's lovely leading lady Avi Love is okay, but he saddles her with endless and obvious horror gimmicks and poor continuity. He can't even resist tossing in the Herrmann "Psycho" music in the climactic reels, better left to his meretricious porn parody/ripoffs.
Clues and plot setups are all obvious, especially our heroine's frequent instant acquiescence to offers of medicine supplied by one Dr. Jekyll.
Sex scenes are poorly handled, notably ones passed off as erotic nightmares but staged in uninteresting settings, despite the flashy gimmick of presenting the mainly flashback shoot in chiaroscuro-lit black and white. And the gonzo anal sex Wedding night sex for Avi and her Mr. Hyde (Seth Gamble with a pencil-thin mustache) has ugly gynecological closeups that are anything but erotic or Romantic.
Tom Byron plays Jekyll (NonSex) oh so serious, and deadly dull; contract star Jessica Drake is wasted in a nothing NonSex role as the shrink interrogating Avi that puts the story into flashbacks and Keena James is perky in a gimmick BFF character for a threesome with Seth and fictitious character Victoria Voxxx. Newcomer Dustin Daring is appealing in a key NonSex role and reminded me of Danny Wylde, latter only on the payroll as a grip.
Playing Avi's mom (significantly named Mary Reilly, once played eponymously on screen by a superstar) Reagan Foxx is suspiciously & transparently sinister from the git-go but gets to finally deliver some big-breast sex in a threesome late in the show to justify the widescreen format, after flat-chested young femmes have populated all the other XXX action.
Wicked's antiquated use of condoms doesn't sit well with Braun's gonzo style and in the first sex scene 15 minutes into the picture he even has Seth's rubber left on during some blow jobs to cut down on production time.
It all leads to a lousy ending in a lousy script Braun had the temerity to co-blame on his late dad Lasse and current Wicked director son Rikki. Oh well, they get to share in the phony awards.
