- The film is set in 326 B.C. when Alexander the Great aka Sikander (Dara Singh) having conquered Persia and the Kabul valley descends to the Indian Border at Jhelum. King Porus (Prithviraj Kapoor) stops the advance with his troops. Sikander ignores his teacher Aristotle's advice and falls for a Persian woman Rukhsana (Helen).Fearing for Sikander's life she extracts a promise from Porus that he will not harm Sikander. In the battle with the Macedonian army Porus loses his son and is captured. An elaborate verbal duel follows in court when Porus is brought before Sikander. Impressed by Porus's valor, the two kings become friends. Sikander lets Porus go and withdraws from the Jhelum.
- Janki lives a middle-class lifestyle along with her husband, Balraj, and a young daughter, Jyoti. Balraj works as a Journalist and is ready to expose an underworld gangster named Jagdish but his editor, Mathur, refuses to let him do so. One night Police are informed that Balraj has killed Mathur with a knife. Balraj is arrested, tried in Court, found guilty, and sentenced to be hanged. Janki goes to Judge Kumar to plead about his innocence, but Kumar refuses to do anything and Balraj is hanged. Janki re-locates to live with a hoodlum named Gopi and this is where Jyoti grows up, attends college and falls in love with Deepak. When Janki finds out that Deepak is Kumar's son, she refuses to let Jyoti meet with Deepak, and Kumar also prevents Deepak from seeing Jyoti. Then the Police arrest Deepak for killing Jagdish. Evidence is against Deepak and if found guilty he will be hanged. Watch what happens when Kumar finds Janki may be the only one who can save Deepak from the gallows.
- Thakur Dayal Singh is a wealthy man and lives a very comfortable life with his wife, and daughter, Anita. He would like Anita to get married to his friend's son, but Anita refuses to agree to an arranged marriage, and would like to select her groom on her own. When Thakur disagrees, Anita runs away from home, and meets with a young man named Pritam Singh. After a series of misunderstandings, both are attracted to each other and fall in love. Anxious about his daughter's whereabouts, Thakur sends his men, and even offers to pay a reward for the safe return of his daughter. Anita is separated from Pritam, and taken back to her home, and marriage to a man she has never known before.
- A wood-cutter by profession, Dara Singh lives a poor lifestyle in a village along with his widowed mother, sister - Lajjoo, and brother, Nazuk. One day he comes to the assistance of Raj Nartaki Madhumati, who rewards him a gold Mohar, which Dara refuses but Nazuk pockets. Nazuk is subsequently arrested by the Police for theft, and is released only when Dara forcibly abducts Madhumati to testify on his behalf. Subsequently Madhumati falls in love with Dara, much to the chagrin of Mahamantri, who arrests Dara, imprisons, then tortures him, and also attempts to crush him under the feet of an elephant albeit in vain. Dara manages to escape along with his mother, the Police come hunting for him, entrap Lajjoo and set their hut on fire. Lajjoo is rescued by a young man named Budhwa and both fall in love with each other. Shortly thereafter, Mahamantri abducts Dara's mother and holds her for ransom until Dara surrenders. Dara must now decide whether to protect himself or surrender and save his mother from the hands of Mahamantri - who has already killed the Maharaj and is all set to crown himself as Maharaj. Dara also does not know that Budhwa is not who he claims to be.
