As a walking sim it features incredibly rich environmental storytelling & stunning art direction, whilst as a horror game it sports some truly grotesque creature design and tense (if basic) stealth sections. Wish it had more mechanical depth and it's so linear there's almost zero replayability, but that's more than made up for by the stellar writing and voice acting.
Think I prefer the purity of Dead By Daylight - this added quite a lot to the formula, which served the theming but in my opinion overcomplicated the gameplay.
Maybe souls games aren't for me? Loved the atmosphere and the feeling of overcoming a tough boss, but controls were sometimes finnicky and it's incredibly aggravating that your attacks could be interrupted but enemy ones couldn't (just make it so either both can or both can't please). Ended up more frustrating than fun, which is a shame cause I've heard people rave about this game.
Take Inside or Limbo and make it Studio Ghibli
Basically like if PlayStation made Dead Space (for better and for worse). Incredible production value but sometimes underbaked in gameplay & level design.
Absolute nostalgia trip, brought me right back to childhood days on the PS2 - could have been made even better with tighter controls and a few quality-of-life upgrades, but loved it nonetheless 😄
