Day one of the WIAA State Track and Field Championships in La Crosse Friday included a number of area athletes making trips to the awards podium, including Somerset senior Caymen Gebheim winning a state title in the Division 2 boys discus.

Gebheim was joined on the podium in the discus by junior teammate Broden Thiel in third place and St. Croix Central junior Brady Jackman in fourth, giving the two Middle Border Conference teams three of the top four Division 2 discus throwers in the state.

Gebheim won the title with a throw of 186-feet, 6-inches. Thiel was third with 170-10 and Jackman took fourth with 167-5.

Spartan junior Jack Krier also reached the podium with a sixth place leap of 44-11 in the triple jump, while senior teammate Caeden Kreibich placed 12th with 41-11.

Hudson made three appearances on the awards stand in Division 1, including a state runner-up showing by the boys 4x800 meter relay team of Noah Lawrence, TJ Pennycook, Ethan Eilertson and Brock Bjerke with a new school record time of 7 minutes, 48.19 seconds.

Lawrence also picked up a sixth place medal in the 3200 meter run with a time of 9:26.47, while senior Hayden Bergman took fifth in the pole vault with a height of 15-feet.

River Falls senior Taurus Eastgate picked up a fourth place medal in the Division 1 triple jump with a distance of 46-02.5.

New Richmond’s Tragon Timm qualified for Saturday’s Division 1 finals in both the 100 and 200 meter dashes, while teaming up with Miles Burke, Billy Auvin and Drew Brinkman to give the Tigers the top qualifying time in the 4x200 meter relay at 1:27.64.

Hudson’s Ross Yaeger moved on to the finals in the Division 1 400 meter dash with a ninth place time of 49.95 seconds, while the River Falls boys 4x400 relay team of Jack Silloway, Robbie Anderson, Ty Bauschelt and Quin Andrews posted the fifth fastest qualifying time of 3:21.00.

On the Division 1 girls’ side, New Richmond’s 4x100 relay team of Nadia Unruh, Miley Covey, Etta Carlson and Katelynn Doehrmann posted the seventh fastest qualifying time of 48.72 seconds.

In Division 2, Somerset’s Malachy Driscoll advanced to Saturday’s finals in both the boys 110 high hurdles and 300 intermediate hurdles. He’s seeded fourth in the 110 hurdles with a time of 15.49 seconds and ninth in the 300 hurdles with a time of 40.63.

St. Croix Central’s Lili Klinkhamer qualified for the girls 300 low hurdle finals with a ninth place time of 47.28 seconds.
