New Richmond Post 80 opened up a 4-0 third inning lead and held off River Falls Post 121 for a 6-2 victory in an American Legion baseball game Wednesday night at First National Bank of River Falls Field.

River Falls pulled to within 4-2 in the fifth inning, but New Richmond added single runs in the sixth and seventh to earn the win.

Post 80 scored an unearned run in the top of the first following a leadoff single and stolen base by Max Kretovics and opened up a 4-0 lead in the third on an RBI sac fly by Matthew Fouks and a two-run triple to right by Jordan Rice.

Post 121 got a run back in the bottom of the third after loading the bases when Bryce Bevan doubled, Ben Johnson walked and Austin Curt was hit by a pitch. Cody Olson then hit a two-out pop-up just in front of home plate that dropped for an error, allowing Bevan to score from third.

A lead-off triple by Curti in the fifth and an RBI sac fly by Olson made it a 4-2 game but that’s as close as River Falls could get.

New Richmond loaded the bases in the top of the sixth and got a run on a Gavin Tarras sac fly and Bennett Scribner singled in a run in the seventh to make the final 6-2.

Fouks had three hits for New Richmond and Scribner, Kretovics and Reagan Driscoll had two each as Post 80 outhit Post 121 13-5. Levi Olson went the first five innings to earn the win on the mound, allowing one earned run on three hits with five strikeouts and five walks before Rice gave up two hits in two scoreless innings of relief.

Bevan had two of River Falls five hits, including a double, while Lars Briese had a two-bagger. Tyler Nelson took the loss, allowing three earned runs on six hits in three innings of work.
