New Richmond and River Falls both won their Division 2 playoff openers in impressive fashion Tuesday night to advance to the regional final round Saturday.

Top-seeded New Richmond defeated No. 8 Marshfield 8-0 and will host No. 4 Barron at 7 p.m. Saturday at New Richmond High School’s Tiger Stadium. Barron beat No. 5 Menomonie, 1-0, Tuesday.

No. 2 seed River Falls put 12 goals on the board while shutting out seventh-seeded Altoona in its regional final Tuesday night. The Wildcats will host No. 3 Marshfield, 8-0 winners over No. 6 Wausau East, in its regional final Saturday at 7 p.m.

The winners of Saturday night’s regional finals will face each other in the sectional semifinal Thursday, June 6, meaning the Tigers and Wildcats could possibly face each other for the third time this season. The previous two matches ended in 1-1 draws.
