Nobu Hospitality, in partnership with Thailand-based real estate group Asset World Corp, will open its first New York City hotel in 2026.
The 145-key Plaza Athénée Nobu Hotel and Spa New York is slated to open in Manhattan’s Upper East Side in 2026. The property will be on the site of what was formerly known as the Plaza Athénée Hotel on 64th Street and Park Avenue.
The original Plaza Athénée Hotel shut in 2020 as a result of the pandemic. The property’s redevelopment aims to combine the “ultra-luxury” Plaza Athenée brand with Nobu’s experience in the luxury lifestyle realm.
AWC will oversee the project’s development as well as concept and design. Current design plans combine modern simplicity with European classic architecture.
The property will feature indoor and outdoor glassed terraces and gazebos, a private townhouse for guests desiring exclusive service, a traditional Japanese onsen, spa and wellness center. The hotel will also offer a Nobu omakase experience alongside a bar and lounge. A rooftop area with city views will be available for private parties.
As part of the announcement, Nobu Hospitality also shared plans to open another hotel in Thailand, The Plaza Athenée Nobu Hotel and Spa Bangkok.
Trevor Horwell, Nobu Hospitality’s CEO, said the partnership “will redefine the standards of luxury and sophistication not only in Thailand but also in the U.S.”
Nobu Hospitality was founded by chef Nobu Matsuhisa, actor Robert De Niro and producer Meir Teper. The first Nobu Hotel opened in Las Vegas in 2013. Other U.S. locations for Nobu Hotels are in Atlanta; Miami Beach, Florida; Malibu and Palo Alto, California; and Chicago. A Nobu Hotel in Atlantic City, New Jersey will open later this year, and others in New Orleans and Orlando, Florida are in development. The brand’s portfolio includes 35 properties worldwide.
