Scope and ContentAdvertisement: Captain Tootsie and the Secret-Play Touchdown. (Sweets Company of America, Hoboken), [1944]. Full-page color comic strip style ad as published in Funny Stuff, DC Comics, issue number 27, November 1944, page unknown; single leaf removed from publication, 6-3/4" x 10". The multi-panel strip promoted Tootsie Rolls which were made in Hoboken and wrapped product is depicted in the ad. Artwork credited to C.C. Beck and Peter Costanza. The reverse of the leaf has the first page of a Henry the Laffing Hyena story, "All You Need is an Agent!" This ad was created at least as early as 1939 as it is known to have appeared in a number of different comic book titles between 1939 - 1944 (later appearances are possible.)
