However, the Kevin Conroy story included in this collection merits the five stars I gave this book.
Conroy famously gave voice to the animated Batman for a generation. He was also at one time a closeted gay man. His actual experience of living a double life gave gravitas to the role of a lifetime playing both Bruce Wayne and Batman. With that in context, gave this personal story layers of pain and eventual redemption.
In some way, this was Conroy's final gift to fans of his rendition of Batman....more

The short stories collected are solid glimpses into the characters that fly the pride flag openly. A story that stands out is the Batwoman story, wherein the character looks into her past and psyche like how Alice looked into the looking glass.
Another story that had layers is the Alan Scott Green Lantern one where Alan continues the reconciliation process with his once villainous son, Obsidian.
A solid book, and a good addition to those looking to add another comic with a Jim Lee cover to their collection. ...more

It has brought an incredible level success to Kirkman when it spawned its own massively successful television series. It ended here.
I've never really read this series, except for the iconic first issue and few chapters after it. I still wanted to read the ending, and I believe it to be satisfying for both a serious fan and a casual reader like me. It's an ending where some of the characters were able to see their hard choices pay off in the end. "Some characters" because this was a book that was never shy in killing off their characters. Still, I guess it wrapped up pretty nicely. ...more

We have war grizzled characters saying their farewells, nothing too maudlin, but it doesn't sound too optimistic.
Things obviously got better and hopefully, better stories came, which it did. This has an early Wonder Woman work by the artist Daniel Sampere who is the regular artist along with the writer Tom King on the Wonder Woman monthly title....more

There were several unexpected situations, like that Perry White-Amanda Waller date, or a Sgt. Rock story out of nowhere. Still, this was a well-drawn and well written anthology of short stories with barely any romance. I wonder if DC would actually have the guts to publish actual romance stories in this day and age....more

Filipino artists contributed a couple of pin-ups, but this collection only has Filipino-born colorist Romulo Fajardo working on one story. I guess that will have to do.
I enjoyed this book, the main story features my favorite Batgirl, Cassandra Cain, after all. I wonder if the Monkey Prince, a character who debuted in these pages, actually ended up relevant....more
