It was about Greek gods with contemporary designs living at Olympius. The major focus is one Hades and Persephone. I totally ship them !! I hate Apollo. I love Eros! And Hermes too. Their are villainous nymphs who are trying to break Hera and Zeus as well as Hades n Persephone. I love it so far!...more
3.25 stars I would recommend this book to everyone who is interested in Indian mythology. This book is written from Mohini's perspective about all the Indian gods and goddesses. I admire the voice the author portrayed for Mohini and other females! I liked how the perspective that gods could be disastrous and not just brightly coloured divine beings. The writing was very decorated which some people might or might not like. Since I knew most of the Hindi words, mixing them with high English vocabulary was okay, but that depends upon everyone's own take on writing, I found that was a lil bit too much of jargon but then the purpose was to introduce the jargon to the readers I think. The book was all over quite informative when it comes to Indian mythology. A big thank you to the author for providing me a free complimentary copy in exchange for an honest review....more

"I am a freak, something to fear. Lepers are feared. Fat people are ridiculed. The homely ignored. We are raised to be perfect, especially women- we are bred to be beautiful. It's human nature to be curious about the pain that others endure. We are told at a young age not to stare, so we look away and pretend that freaks like me don't exist. We dont ask how it feels to be so ugly, so crippled, so fat, so- odd- unless we want to hurt them, and we do, sometimes, then we go in our way laughing at the pseudo-justice of our cruelty; laughing into our wine or with whoever we want to sleep with."
This book surprised me pleasantly and became one of my favourite books.
The infamous Medusa is put to a modern day trial in NYC and Zeus, Athena, Poseidon etc, the Olympians are not the gods but rich people, so rich that they were assumed to be gods, once upon a time. Medusa was raped in the temple of Athena by Poseidon who tempted her but Medusa was the one who was punished because why not? She is a woman for god's sake and how can a man be wrong. But Maggie, and her colleagues are lawyers and are bent to provide justice to Medusa and burst the myth.
The story was not only focused on showing the problems with Greek mythologies and how over the centuries they have wronged women but also how women are still in a deplorable position. It provided various details of killing of girl child, killing of brides for dowry, and even though it's embarrassing to acknowledge how backward my country is in this sense, its not negligible and it's the bitter truth.
The mentality that a girl's beauty, her need to dress herself and look good can be moulded into 'she asked for it!' is so wrong. The part where Medusa said " He did everything and I did nothing yet am the whore" made my heartache because it is so true specially where rich men are concerned.
There is an element of mystery to the story which was again very interesting. Honestly this perspective made me feel the need to question why are the greek heroes still called heroes when they just raped, and killed, tricked and deceived!
The use of Hijab and the cultural appropriation of it into Greek mythology retelling is concerning though.
The trickle of romance and friendships provided softness to the otherwise aggravating narrative. Elements of humour and wonder against cross-generational aspects provided a novel angle. Does this book have issues? Yes. So will I recommend it, yes! I just feel that Medusa was a victim and everyone should know it. Also, I loved how contemporary the writing style felt even when dealing with a greek myth retelling!
I received an advance reader copy of the book by the publisher in exchange for an honest review....more
I am really craving some greek mythologies and I picked this up because of the above stated reason, just cuz I craved it. I was already spoiled about I am really craving some greek mythologies and I picked this up because of the above stated reason, just cuz I craved it. I was already spoiled about this book in Circe as they had described how the story will end so I did go into this book knowing it will have a terrible end but tbh it wasn't that bad if you know what I mean.
It follows the story of Achilles and Patroclus who grew up together since childhood when Patroclus was exiled. It was the most perfect gay book I read cuz I was truly vouching for them throughout the story and I was really angry at Achilles mother playing her nasty tricks.
But I do have a question about why Patroclus did what he did with Deidameia (daughter of Lycomedes), he could easily refuse her, nobody was forcing him. Infact he even liked it, wasn't he deceiving Achilles? If anyone knows do tell me....more

This book displayed how long and how tenuous it was to gain women empowerment in a world which was upheld by men. It didn't happen in a day or two. I would never want to live on a lonely island despite its riches, despite magic. I could understand her need of companionship throughout the story. The story is beautifully spun. And I loved the ending, Miller did a remarkable job in weaving such a delightful end to Circe.
“Most men do not know me for what I am.” “Most men in my experience are fools,” he said.”
“Your wife sounds like a clever woman. She is. I cannot account for the fact that she married me, but since it is to my benefit, I try not to bring it to her attention.”
It's not fair," I said. "It cannot be."
"Those are two different things," my grandmother said.”

Since I love history, I would totally recommend this book, it had an element of greek mythology with some jam packed action quests and all. It also had a harry potter element of half blood and all that. The story envelops around this guy Percy Jackson, and how he is introduced to his father's world of greek gods. He is a half blood as his mother is mortal and father immortal. If I say anything more, Ill probably spoil it. So give this one a read yourself and be amazed!...more
