Harry finally gains a somewhat functional brain in this book, opting to listen to Sirius and other people throwing advice at him left and right, therefore adding a bit more to his narration. Yet, despite my many qualms, I adore this book and its gripping narrative....more

Adding Connor's perspective creates a juxtaposition between the characters. As Evan grows happy with his false world, Connor watches, constructing a stark contrast of death for life. Only one could live, if Evan succeeded in his attempt, Connor, and Connor succeeding, Evan. Further, the supplementary element of Miguel and Connor's friendship, perhaps more, only advances the feeling of remorse. Evan's survival and happiness are revealed alongside the cost. The text divulges the story of being found, of constructing a world of make believe because it is easier than facing the alternative, while displaying the trauma and scraps left in its wake. Evan cannot keep up the lie forever- something the book culminates perfectly. The anxiety of impending doom- an impending need to break his own walls, builds the way it does through the music of the musical. Emmich, as previously stated, transforms music and acting, theatre of a high degree, into pages of the identical hard-hitting material....more
