Title: Kamonohashi Ron no Kindan Suiri or Ron Kamonohashi: Deranged Detective

This first volume introduces the reader to a detective duo in the spirit of Holmes and Watson, but comedic. It's as if Conan Doyle wrote Sherlock as a manzai act.

The straight man or tsukkomi, is Totomaru Isshiki, a greenhorn detective who's a pure hearted idiot. His partner, foil, and boke is Ron Kamonohashi, a gifted detective who had shut himself from the world because of mysterious circumstances that lead to him to abandon a promising career. Together, they just might find the serial killer who's victim's bodies had the hallmarks of drowning but found in places far away from any body of water. By the second chapter, they have become partners, where Ron has taken the role of a civilian consultant, supporting Toto from the shadows.

This volume contains three complete cases, with fourth that ends in a cliffhanger. As a reader, it's irritating to have an incomplete story whose completion one has to wait for the next volume release due in months. It's a promising series that does a lot of things for laughs, but the cases are all murder/homicide, so it can get serious at times.

That was a fun read! Although, I would admit that the fun I was talking about only kicked in chapter 3 (I enjoyed that hotspring case!) So, obviously, that's the one thing that's keeping me from giving it a five-star. But the floor of sloth killed me! That was so hilarious!

At the first few pages, I thought the Ron/Toto dynamic duo is supposed to be inspired by Sherlock and Watson, but it seemed to shift halfway to some sort of Ran Mori/Conan puppet duo from Detective Conan, a manga series that we all knew is also inspired by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes.

Ron Kamonohashi is an interesting character! He's definitely crazy with a sweet tooth and obsession for brown syrup. He has excellent deduction skills, a likeness of dear Sherlock, and has the highest grades in the Blue Academy's history. But his career can't go further because he has a fatal flaw. There is an unconscious hypnosis thingy that is going on whenever he points out who the criminal is, pressuring them to commit suicide as a payback for their crime. With the help of Toto, he can use his skills without harming the criminals. And with Ron's help, the unsolved cases in Toto's station will be deciphered.

I will read further (BECAUSE THERE IS A FRICKEN CLIFFHANGER HAHAHA) By the way, Spitz is so cute, his character reminds me of James Moriarty from the other manga series, Moriarty the Patriot. (yup, all reminders going back to Sir Arthur's series and others inspired by it) Handsome men!!!

I think this review doesn't make sense but I'm really hungry now and my mother is already screaming asking me to come down and eat lunch so ciao!

I don't know for sure, but I think I finished this volume. I can't find any explanation of the tankobon version. I read it in Manga Plus.

Ok. I love this manga, a lot! Ron and Isshiki are like Holmes and Watson, but in a comedic way and Japanese style.

From the way Akira Amano sensei explained the personality and deduction ability of Ron, I knew I'll love this manga. Ron has a high level of deduction ability. Unfortunately, he has an ... illness (I don't wanna say it right here, or it'll be a real spoiler).

I won't deny that this manga is the 2nd best mystery story I truly love, dearly — after Sherlock Holmes, of course.

(I'll edit my review later, since this first volume haven't even ended.)

This first volume was a very promising start and I'm looking forward to continue reading this series. It was a very fun read though I'm a bit bothered by the fact that it ends on a cliffhanger and we are left with an unfinished case. Fortunately, the translation of the second volume is going to be released very soon so at least I won't have to wait for too long.

I really liked our main characters Ron and Toto. They really gave of Sherlock and Watson vibes. A bit more chaotic though. Those two form a very comedic duo and I'm definitely looking forward to see more from them. My favourite thing in this manga was the cat though. That was so funny.

Adoro. A D O R O!
Posso assolutamente consigliarvelo🫶🏻

Well, Ron has a descendants of sherlock and moriarty. And i really can feel that.. their vibes uk 🤷🏻‍♀️ he also has my cutie pie little meow meow ranpo vibe too.

For vol 1, it quite intrigued me but not that much. Still lacking. Also, i don't really like Toto's character. And this kind of duo like this always exist in detective comics/ series/ films. Very annoying.

Mc is a detective who’s a sixth-generation descendant of Sherlock Holmes and a ninth-gen descendant of James Moriarty?? The plot isn’t as much complex and twisted as other detective mangas, though. I can even guess some of cases on my own sometimes :)) but it’s a fun read! Love to see mc doing his childish behaviors and his obsession with sweets. Not gonna binge-read it. I’ll take time to catch up on the current uploaded chapters. It’s a 3.5 star-read. 🫶🏻

This manga is so interesting.
Ron Kamonohashi is such a unique and intriguing character.
The reason on why he keeps away from solving crimes, even when he really wants to, was so surprising. I wonder how that will play off in future volumes and how long he will be able to avoid the compunction to do what he does after catching a criminal.
It was a bit annoying that the last case for this volume ended with a cliffhanger.
I hate cliffhangers.

Similar to Case Closed. So if u like that I think you'll like this. In my opinion I think Ron Kamonohashi is a lot more interesting than Conan. Has more personality to him. This is also pretty funny.

Whimsical Sherlock Holmes mixed with a buddy cop comedy, that is the best way I would start to describe this work. Ron is a graduate of Blue, the most famous detective agency. And there is where the manga threw me for a loop the first time. I thought this would be a more school centric manga, where crimes are happening, and Ron gets to outshine his instructors and coeds. But no. We just further in the future, where Ron is out of this elite detective academy. While he keeps his arrogance, sense of flair and extravagance, he is now a shut in, too depressed to work. That is until he meets police officer Totomaru.

Totomaru is the exact opposite of Ron. While Ron is a genius detective, and maybe the most talented ever, Toto is a clumsy and naïve person, a person for whom everyone thinks is not cut out to work in the police force. In matter of fact, Ron tells him the exact same thing upon their first meeting in Ron’s derelict apartment complex. On the other hand, Totomaru doesn’t know what to think of ron. He strikes him as an eccentric, manic depressive who is unable to help him solve the serial killer case he is working on. But then Ron hears about the case, and he transforms, spring back to life, full of energy and a powerful will to live.

Ron solves the case with incredible speed and brilliance, but there we also see Ron’s fatal flaw. Ron can be very persuasive, even to a hypnotic degree. Once he solves his cases, he puts the culprits under his irresistible spell and tells them to commit suicide, which they always end up doing. The man has a case solve rate of 100% and arrest rate of 0%. The same was about to happen with the culprit of the first crime Toto and Ron solve together, until Toto unselfishly dives and save the culprit’s life. This act of unselfishness and naivete forges the bond between the two, and they will be solving crimes together from then on.

One of the biggest reasons why this works is the fact that Toto and Ron mix so well together. They are just the right amount of different to make this work. Ron also acts as the wild, eccentric one, the set up of most of the comedy bits and Toto is a great straight man, even if most of the jokes are directed at him(not just by Ron but also by his attractive police chief who will probably develop a thing for Ron in the future). Ron’s obsession with corpses, his need to lay next to them and talk things out is a lot funnier in practice than one would imagine.

The other thing that I like about this manga is the art. Here again the mange threw me for a loop. In the opening few panels, where we get Ron as a genius student in Blue, I thought this would be a completely bishonen drawn manga, and it is not. Totomaru is more of a shonen, the culprits and some of the older adults in the manga are drawn more realistically, at times bordering a striking similarity with the works of Naoki Urasawa. But there is still beauty in the manga. All of the establishing shots are very gorgeous. The same is true with the backgrounds in most of the panels, there is attention to detail that greatly add to a sense of time and place.

Magari.

Chronique complète :
https://sunread26.wordpress.com/2023/...

Extrait :

This is interesting! I really love mysteries so I enjoyed this.

I think the art is fine, and the mysteries are good. There is a supernatural element to this, but it's never the solution to the mystery (that's a pet peeve of mine -.- don't give me all the clues then say it was a GHOST lol) Each arc in itself is great, but the larger plot is reaaaally lacking. I know this is a shounen manga so it's supposed to read younger, but it feels way too juvenile. We're talking about this huge powerful group, but why does it feel like kids running around in the playground? lol.

What makes it even less believable is the characterisation. It's rather weak and doesn't have a lot of depth. It's weird, because even after knowing the backstory of the characters, I still don't feel like they're real.

I'm not fully sold, but I will keep reading because I like the individual mysteries/arcs. Hopefully it'll all build up to something more impressive!

Ehhh, I don't know. The art is pretty, but I'm not sure if I want to keep reading this series. It wants to be Sherlock Holmes/Detective Conan, but it's not nearly as clever for that (and the cases way too short and not elaborate enough for that). It wants to be a comedy/buddy cop series, but it's not nearly as funny for that either.
I also don't like that the sidekick character gets belittled as "stupid/incompetent" at every opportunity, without the manga ever really showing us any reason for it? He seems naive and a little slow, but he catches up with Ron's hints and seems to be able to draw the right conclusions from it. Doesn't look stupid to me, just like a dude with too little confidence who gets overrun by other people all the time.

Amamiya me representa respecto a él 😂

i heard about this manga because of other detectives in anime, and, i have to say, it did not disappoint at all.
the unique character writing of ron makes him a traditional detective in some aspects; messy, incredibly intelligent and perceptive, yet he still has his own originality. isshiki's contrasting personality is also very stereotypical in a manner, because he's ron's "watson", yet different, since their relationship is not quite a friendship (yet). i think i will like this manga a lot more as i move on, since the cases have been terribly interesting and i admire the art-style quite a handful. all in all, im enjoying this quite a bit and i would most likely recommend it to others
