For this reader, the tenth volume of the manga adaptation ending in a cliffhanger necessitated going back to the original source material in the light novel for the rest of the story. The direction of the rest of the current story arc lead to the fruition of story hints and threads planted in the early volumes: there are senior church officials up to no good and they are in bed with demons.
The usual formula for "THE NEW GATE" story arc revolve around Shin blowing the minds of modern humans with high level weaponry and equipment that supplement his ultimate skills. This time however, the other characters, especially the younger folk taken under the wing of Shin's party, like Tiera and Wilhelm, get their own chance to shine, even among their more overpowered teammates. Especially Wilhelm, who redeems himself in a spectacular manner, after a thrashing by an evil church 'chosen one'.
All in all, this is a good enough volume to justify this reader's previous excitement upon discovering this story in manga, months ago.
