A teenager is charged with eight crimes in the killing of a Detroit mother who intervened in a fight between her son, who was shot and survived, and the suspect, Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy announced Tuesday.

Anthony Deshawn Sneed, 15, of Clinton Township is charged with felony murder in the killing of Tasneen Sherrod, 42, second-degree murder, assault with intent to murder, armed robbery, and four counts of felony firearm. He'll be charged as an adult, according to Worthy's office.

On Sept. 4, Detroit police responded to the shooting around 8 p.m. in the 18100 block of Runyon Street, where Sherrod and her 15-year-old son were found suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, police said.

Sherrod was trying to deescalate an argument that turned physical between the teenage boys when Sneed opened fire at the mother and son, according to police. Worthy said during the physical altercation, Sneed robbed Sherrod's son of a handgun.

Sneed fled the scene but turned himself in the next day, Worthy said.

Sneed is due back in court for an arraignment on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m.
