A suspect that shot and injured a tree trimmer before barricading himself inside his home for several hours in Schaumburg is now in custody, according to police.

The incident happened at 2:50 p.m. Wednesday in the 800 block of South Braintree.

When police arrived, they provided first aid to the tree trimmer, employed with Davey Tree, before taking him to an area hospital for treatment. His condition is unknown.

The company sent this statement to FOX 32 in response to the shooting:

"We were horrified and devastated to learn of the shooting of a Davey Tree employee at a job site in Schaumburg, Illinois.  Our thoughts and prayers are with our employee, his family, and the teammates who witnessed this tragic incident. Our focus is on the health of our employee who was transported to the hospital.  Davey Tree will be cooperating with authorities and thanks them for their quick response and service toward keeping our communities safe."

The suspect surrendered peacefully and no other injuries resulted from the shooting. Charges are still pending for the suspect, police said.

Residents near the location were asked to remain inside their homes for their safety.
