MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) - It’s a 20-year tradition that continued Thursday morning as the special athletes of Theodore visited their friends here at Corpus Christi Catholic School for a game of basketball.

All to celebrate catholic schools week.

“Our kids have been fired up for the past couple of weeks and this is what they’ve been geared up to. So, every day they take a portion of their day to shoot a little basketball. And as principal of Theodore High School sit in lower C hall and listen to all these young people talk about visiting Corpus Christi, play a little basketball and just make a day of it,” Theodore High School Timothy Hardegree said.

“This is one of our favorite days of the school year. We look forward to it all year long. We talk about how we’re good sports and we cheer for everyone, but they certainly cheer loudly for the bobcats,” Corpus Christi Principal Kristy Martin said.

And when the ball is in play, you can see just how competitive these bobcats are.

“Our kids are competitive by nature regardless of who they are. They’re practicing as normal. They’re shooting the ball and they’re excited about that. I know exactly how many shots they make per day and how many they miss. And to bring the support to our bobcats today, it just makes me proud.”

Proving that we’re all able to have fun regardless of who we are.

“We’re all the same. No matter how different we may seem or appear. We’re all the same. I hope they have an understanding of students who may be a little more different and have special needs,” Martin said.

Afterward, they celebrated the game with a pizza party.
