After a dormant volcano erupts miles outside of Los Angeles, something within the molten hot lava is awakened. Birthed from the bowels of the Earth itself, arachnid-like creatures with an obsidian-black exoskeleton swarm out. One man, COLTON WEST, a washed-up, former A-list action star, suddenly finds himself the real life hero as he's forced to use his onscreen characters' know-how to save the entire city from being victims to the most horrifying villains you couldn't write any better. Police Academy 8: Lavalantula Apocalypse! I was particularly drawn to this film by the Police Academy-style cast twenty years later. The film itself is in your typical C-movie crap with poor visual effects effects, terrible dialogue and a heavily predictable plot. But I was still amused by Ian Ziering's cameo and the character of Nia Peeples, who beat everything around her with aplomb. ()
I hope SyFy TV will make more films like this because I simply enjoy them. These are B-movies that make fun of themselves and do not take themselves seriously, yet they're entertaining, and you can see that the creators want to entertain the audience. In my case, this was fully successful, even the runtime is great, leaving no dull moments. Simply a monster TV B-movie the way it should be. ()
