This is a great treat for a comic book fan, and almost anyone must be thrilled about it. The downside for me is that I saw it only this year, after the great movies and series from the Marvel studios, especially I must emphasize the series Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes, with which I had to compare it in my mind. The animation is great and suited me perfectly, I only have a problem with a few characters. Especially with Hulk, who I didn't like very much, and also a bit with Thor, otherwise they were all depicted quite decently. Regarding the characters of individual characters, I hardly know the Ultimates, I am not familiar with the differences between the original comic and therefore the behavior of some characters was surprising to me, especially when they were depicted differently in EMH. I had problems mainly with Thor, who kept babbling about Asgardian culture and didn't want to cooperate at all (although then he seemed to change and went to fight). Hank Pym was depicted as an arrogant fool, as was Tony Stark, but that's how it should be. On the contrary, the biggest surprise was Captain America, who is a natural leader and that's how it should be, filmmakers should be inspired by him. And now I come to the main problem. It is Thor's hammer. I could even overlook the fact that it's not really a hammer, but something between a hammer and an axe. However, the stumbling block was the scene where Hulk lifted the hammer (!!!) and threw it at Thor! Then he lifted it again, as if it weighed maybe 500kg, but as if there was enough strength, which Hulk undoubtedly possesses. As I wrote, I don't know Ultimates very well, but this is just nonsense! The hammer is enchanted by Odin, nobody has ever lifted the hammer in the comics, except for Red Hulk, but not under the common conditions on Earth. The only consolation for me is that it wasn't done by the animators at Marvel, as the studio didn't exist yet. So, to sum it up, besides a few minor things, it's an entertaining spectacle and you will enjoy the agreements and disagreements of one of Marvel's most famous groups - the Avengers... 90% ()
I would be quite interested to know if those who worked on this animated film actually read Miller's original work. The source material is action-packed and gritty, and features great characters and excellent superhero moments. However, this adaptation of "Ultimates" is simply cute, toothless, and defenseless. It's definitely better for those who don't know the comics. And yet, it's nothing fundamentally different from the standard animated mainstream. ()
