But the tip is a set-up by four of the most powerful villains ever, who seek to defeat the Dynamic Duo once and for all! Armed with a dehydrator that can turn humans into dust, the fearsome foursome intends to take over the world! Can the Caped Crusaders use their high-flying heroism and groovy gadgetry to declaw Catwoman (Lee Meriwether), ice the Penguin (Burgess Meredith), upstage the Joker (Cesar Romero), and stump the Riddler (Frank Gorshin) in time? You just have to appreciate something so wacky and goofy. I like each of the three core Batmen (ignoring Schumacher’s) for something different. Burton's for its comic atmosphere, architecture and bizarre visual ideas, Nolan's for its epicness, seductive bleakness and fatality. And this granddaddy? It won me over with its insight, humour and deliberate stylization in the form of a non-committal joke that you can't take seriously. The film is also terribly fast-paced and dynamic, always moving and always having something going on, Batman's cave and his gadgets are hilarious, and the combination of the Riddler, the Penguin, the Joker and Catwoman (here as an exclusively negative character) into villain team-up works brilliantly. I admire Nolan's and Burton's Batman, but this one....this one I probably paradoxically enjoyed the most, even though it doesn't reach the filmmaking qualities of its successors. ()
This Batman is the Lemonade Joe of the comic book world. He is so frankly goofy and constantly entertaining from start to finish that you can't help but love him. I only knew the shark scene and I thought it would be a grand finale. My mistake - it was only the beginning of everything. So I'm giving it five bat-stars and I'm glad I've discovered another film that will lift my spirits at any time. “I'll call a taxi! “- “No, not now. Luckily, we're in great shape. It'll be faster if we run." ()
