Brentford have joined Norwich and Watford in earning promotion to the Premier League following their Championship play-off final win over Swansea. Thomas Frank's side finished third in the table for the second season in a row.

Nine months ago they fell at the final hurdle with Fulham coming out on top at Wembley.

But Brentford learnt from their past mistakes to secure promotion to the top-flight for the first time in 74 years.

The Bees raced out of the blocks and earned a penalty on the 10th minute when Swansea goalkeeper Freddie Woodman brought down Bryan Mbeumo.

Brentford's star striker Ivan Toney kept his cool to beat Woodman from the spot, despite the keeper diving the right way.

Ten minutes later the west Londoners' lead was doubled as a swift counter-attack was finished off by Emiliano Marcondes.

Toney hit the crossbar with a stunning effort soon after as the Bees looked well in control heading into the break.

Jay Fulton was sent off for Swansea just after the hour mark for a tackle from behind on Mathias Jenssen.

And the match petered out with Brentford holding out, much to the delight of their fans, who celebrated wildly in the stands.

Brentford boss Frank attempted to explain how difficult it was guiding his team to the top-flight.

He said: "I'm completely empty right now. I don't know if I can describe it. It's been such a long journey.

"There's been ups and downs..."

The interview with Sky Sports was then disrupted as the Bees players chucked their manager up and down in the air.

Frank then continued: "This group of players is incredible.

"Everyone has played a major part in this.

"Somebody said to me that we need two hands and 10 fingers to lift the trophy and we have done it on our 10th attempt.

"The feeling was calm and relaxed and ready to be ruthless.

"We didn't talk about last year. We focused on this.

"Right now I want to get drunk and then worry about the Premier League tomorrow!"
