How Man Utd could line up after Grealish, Maddison, Rice and Haaland transfers
Manchester United have been linked with Jack Grealish, Declan Rice, Erling Haaland and James Maddison when the transfer window reopens in January.
Manchester United want to sign Aston Villa’s Jack Grealish, West Ham’s Declan Rice, Red Bull Salzburg’s Erling Haaland and Leicester’s James Maddison when the transfer window reopens next month, according to ESPN. We now look at how the quartet could look in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side.
Jack Grealish
United have been impressed by Grealish’s performances as part of a struggling Aston Villa side this season.
And, should they sign the 24-year-old, it’s feasible they’d play him on the right wing.
United have Marcus Rashford in the form of his life over on the opposite flank, with Anthony Martial also capable of playing there.
Daniel James has spent most of the campaign on the right but the Wales international’s form has faded in recent times.
Therefore, Grealish could be the answer to their problems in that position.
James Maddison
United have been tracking Leicester star Maddison over the past year - and think the playmaker is the answer to their creative problems.
Current No 10’s Jesse Lingard and Juan Mata are not up to scratch and Solskjaer is well aware of it.
The report says United have Maddison as a priority for January, despite the fact they know the England international will be difficult to sign.
Should they somehow manage to get a transfer done, however, the 23-year-old would likely play behind a No 9.
That would then allow Solskjaer to revert to a two-man midfield.
Declan Rice
United are big admirers of Declan Rice, who has been a shining light amid a difficult campaign for West Ham.
And the England international would add some much-needed composure to the middle of the park.
The jury remains out on Fred and Scott McTominay, who have blown hot and cold for the Red Devils so far.
And Rice would likely slot alongside Paul Pogba in the centre of Solskjaer’s midfield.
That would then allow Maddison to play further forward.
Erling Haaland
He’s perhaps the most-coveted forward in world football.
And United believe they can land Haaland due to the fact he played under Solskjaer at Molde earlier in his career.
Should he sign, it would likely be at Martial’s expense.
The France international is too inconsistent for Solskjaer, who has grown frustrated at his lacklustre displays.
And that’s where Haaland could come in.
