Married at First Sight: 'Worst news EVER' Fans call to CANCEL show after shocking split
MARRIED AT FIRST SIGHT saw another two couples fail to complete the experience as Jack and Verity and Jonathan and Steph both decided to split up and seek an annulment. Thus resulting in fans calling for the show to be cancelled following an advertisement for viewers to sign up for a new series.
Married at First Sight: Steph and Jonathan party in Yeovil
Married at First Sight concluded on Channel 4 tonight as viewers tuned in to see whether or not Jack and Verity, as well as Steph and Jonathan, would stay married or seek an annulment.
In the final five minutes of the episode, viewers were given a shock as Jack and Verity’s outcome took a major u-turn no one could have predicted and those watching at home were left fuming, calling for the show to be taken off screens.
It came as the couple who met for the first time down the aisle, spoke fondly of one another and their potential future throughout the series.
But Channel 4’s clever editing surprised those watching at home when it was revealed Jack and Verity had in fact decided to split up.
Scenes showed the couple sit down with Cynthia Green, the registrar who conducted their marriage ceremony and agree to staying married.
“I want to stay married,” Jack replied first and Verity agreed. “The experts did get it right in terms of our personalities 100 per cent. I want to be with her in five years, I really do,” he continued to explain.
“I’d really like to say it’s forever, I really hope it is,” Verity added and it was following this when the camera cut to the ‘three months later’ screen.
Understandably Steph and Jonathan had remained separated whilst their divorce was being finalised, but for Jack and Verity, a happy ever after was teased.
Sadly the outcome was very different. Verity was seen walking down the street, whilst Jack was cooking in the kitchen. That was until Jack’s former housemate walked in to join him.
“The last time I saw Verity, was two weeks ago,” he revealed. “I decided that we left it there, go our separate ways. It was hard, making that decision, seeing someone get hurt.
“She is such an amazing girl, but I didn’t have a connection, missing jigsaw puzzle and unfortunately we didn’t have that. I hope we’re still friends by the end of this. I know it’s hard for the time being, I know it’s hard for now, but I hope we can come through and be friends.”
As for how Verity felt about the split, she was seen joining friends in a local pub to discuss the decision.
“I’m feeling a bit [up and down]. I really tried because I thought that we were in it together and that both were going to work at it,” she said.
“Jack said I wasn’t the one and he’d given it his all and that was it. We were only together three months which I think is a drop in the ocean of trying to make it work and it’s not the outcome I wanted.”
Nevertheless, Verity made it clear: “I definitely don’t regret doing it. I really wanted to do it, I signed up to this because I was really committed to making to work and also I’ve got no regrets for how I acted or anything.”
Those watching at home took to Twitter to discuss how the series ended and many were fuming, with some even questioning why Channel 4 were advertising for contestants for another series.
“Knew it!!!! I said all along he would break Verity’s heart #MarriedAtFirstSight,” one wrote, whilst someone added: "So the U.K has zero success, who on earth would want to do it for the next series! #MarriedAtFirstSight @Channel4."
Another added: “This is the worst news ever. No Jack and Verity, it's over. hope they can be friends...but it's sad. But hope they both find happiness in the future. #MarriedAtFirstSight.”
One remarked: "How can another series of #MarriedAtFirstSigh be made in the UK, just stop."
“Anyone else waiting for the plot twist that Verity and Jonathan were married and living happily ever after there?! #MarriedAtFirstSight,” someone suggested.
One person commented: “Jonathan and Verity are actually the winners in this because they both come out of it looking like kind, decent people. Unlike some others I could mention. #MarriedAtFirstSight.”
"Not sure quite how desperate someone would have to be to watch the 4th completely unsuccessful series of #MarriedAtFirstSight and see the bit at the end about applying and still think ‘that’s a good idea!" A viewer said.
Married at First Sight is available to catch up on 4od.
