UK society ‘now more segregated’
BRITAIN’S multi-cultural society is actually becoming more segregated, a study has found.
Most people mix mainly those from their own ethnic background, says the charity Challenge Network.
The study supports previous warnings of US-style ghettos springing up in the UK.
Just one in 10 people questioned said his or her closest friend was from a different ethnic background.
Craig Morley, of Challenge Network which runs a voluntary national service for 16 and 17-year-olds, said yesterday: “We need policies that actively promote integration, rather than foster segregation and ultimately lead to greater social isolation.”
