New 1,000-strong immigration squad to ‘fast track removals’ and clear asylum hotels
Asylum hotels will be cleared and a 1,000 strong immigration force will remove illegal immigrants, Labour has promised
Labour is planning to hire 1,000 new staff to ‘fast track’ removing illegal immigrants and ‘clear asylum hotels’.
Keir Starmer’s Labour Party has promised in its election manifesto to take steps to stop the boats and end the record high illegal immigration into the UK.
Its manifesto states it will end the faltering Rwanda scheme - something which it has been reported this weekend has already happened - and use the money saved to set up a 1,000 strong immigration task force.
The government’s new Border Security Command was announced on Sunday night and is hiring for a leader for the organisation.
In its manifesto, Labour claimed: “Labour will set up a new returns and enforcement unit, with an additional 1,000 staff, to fast-track removals to safe countries for people who do not have the right to stay here.
“We will negotiate additional returns arrangements to speed up returns and increase the number of safe countries that failed asylum seekers can swiftly be sent back to.
“And we will also act upstream, working with international partners to address the humanitarian crises which lead people to flee their homes, and to strengthen support for refugees in their home region.
“Labour will turn the page and restore order to the asylum system so that it operates swiftly, firmly, and fairly; and the rules are properly enforced.
“We will hire additional caseworkers to clear the Conservatives’ backlog and end asylum hotels, saving the taxpayer billions of pounds.”
Reporting directly to the Home Secretary, the Border Security Commander will provide strategic direction to work across agencies, drawing together the work of the National Crime Agency, intelligence agencies, police, Immigration Enforcement and Border Force, to better protect our borders and go after the smuggling gangs facilitating small boat crossings.
