The Royal Family can expect international scrutiny to ease off - at least in part - as the American public shifts its focus to the upcoming Presidential Election, according to a royal expert.

The Firm has come under the spotlight in the early months of the year as both the King and Kate, the Princess of Wales were diagnosed with cancer within a few weeks of each other.

Expert Brittani Barger suggested the run-up to the elections will reduce speculation on when the Princess of Wales might be returning to work.

The co-founder of Royal News said: "With the US Presidential Election in November and a rematch between Biden and Trump, I think Americans will be distracted, taking even more pressure off of the Princess.

"People will have more to focus on social media, where most of the pressure on Catherine seems to come from, with elections and arguing between political parties in the coming months. And I'm sure that's welcomed by the Palace."

Kate announced in March she had been undergoing treatment following the discovery of traces of cancer during abdominal surgery in January.

The royal was pushed into releasing a video announcing her diagnosis after her months-long break from official duties sparked outlandish speculation on social media.

Ms Barger said she is not expecting talk about Kate's return to stop completely but the election could lead to social media speculation slowing down.

The royal journalist added: “I don't think talk and pressure on the Princess will completely go away, but I think the elections will help ease it a bit.”

The whole of the Royal Family is already expected to reduce their official outings until at least the middle of the summer.

King Charles and Prince William have cleared their diaries because of the General Election, which will take place on July 4.

Annual proceedings, such as the King's official birthday - known as Trooping the Colour - are still expected to go ahead on June 15.

And sources close to the Palace have suggested the Princess of Wales might be considering putting in a special appearance on the balcony of Buckingham Palace to greet the public.

However, they emphasised Kate will not be returning to her official duties and will wait to receive her doctors's go-ahead before resuming her role in full.
