Britain's low-price petrol hotspots as UK's cheapest service stations revealed

The motoring experts at Moneybarn Car Finance analysed average petrol and diesel prices to reveal the UK's cheapest service stations to fill up when on the road.

Thanks to the warmer months making a return, searches for ‘UK staycation’ have soared 489 percent in the past month alone, according to new research.

The motoring experts at Moneybarn Car Finance analysed average petrol and diesel prices to reveal the UK’s cheapest service stations to fill up when on the road.

Magor Services on the M4 in Wales is the service station with the cheapest petrol prices, costing visitors 139.36p on average per litre.

Refuelling a 52-litre tank at Magnor Services would cost £72.47. Located at junction 23A, it is Wales' largest and busiest service station.

Yorkshire and the Humber boasts four service stations with the second lowest average petrol price, at 139.49p per litre. Woodall (Southbound), Ferrybridge, Leeds Skelton Lake and Doncaster (North) are all tied for the second most affordable places to refuel.

Eight service stations located in the North West region have the most affordable diesel prices, averaging 147.81p per litre. Filling up a 47-litre tank in this area would cost approximately £69.47.

The stations with the lowest diesel prices include Burtonwood, Charnock Richard, Tebay, Birch, Southwaite, Chester, Lymm truckstop, and Killington Lake, and are located along the M6, M62, and M56 motorways.

Magor is the second cheapest service station for diesel prices, averaging 147.94p per litre. Refuelling at this Welsh pit stop costs visitors just 13p more per litre than the cost of doing so at the UK’s cheapest service stations for diesel. 

Hopwood Park, just south of Birmingham on the M42 is crowned the UK’s best service station, with an overall score of 7.58 out of 10. It is famed for its 13 eateries and vast parking spaces; accommodating 460 cars.

The research and calculations that drew these conclusions are based on a 2024 Ford Focus with a 52-litre petrol fuel tank capacity and 47-litre diesel fuel tank capacity.
