Jack Black forced to cancel entire Tenacious D tour after ‘evil’ Trump joke backlash
Jack Black has been forced to cancel Tenacious D's tour after backlash over bandmate's Kyle Gass' ‘evil' Trump joke, with both making public apologies.
On Sunday evening in Sydney, just a day after the assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump, Tenacious D made a very controversial joke.
It was bandmate Kyle Gass’ birthday, so Jack Black asked him to make a wish and the guitarist replied: “Don’t miss Trump next time”.
Since then Tenacious D have postponed their Newcastle show and now the whole tour has been cancelled after both frontmen apologised.
Jack Black posted on Instagram: “I was blindsided by what was said at the show on Sunday. I would never condone hate speech or encourage political violence in any form.
“After much reflection, I no longer feel it is appropriate to continue the Tenacious D tour, and all future creature plans are on hold. I am grateful to the fans for their support and understanding.”
The band had six more dates across Australia planned before announcing the cancellation of the remainder of the tour.

Gass, who make the Trump joke, posted: “The line I improvised onstage Sunday night in Sydney was highly inappropriate, dangerous and a terrible mistake. I don’t condone violence of any kind, in any form, against anyone.
“What happened was a tragedy, and I’m incredibly sorry for my severe lack of judgement. I profoundly apologise to those I’ve let down and truly regret any pain I’ve caused.”
