Touring isn’t the most popular idea for Ariana Grande.
Fans of the Wicked star were filled with excitement when a rumor took steam claiming that she is set to hit the road in 2025. However, the “We Can’t Be Friends” singer is saying thank you, next to taking the stage and performing on a grand scale.
“I feel so grateful to the acting, and I think my fans know that music and being on stage will always be a part of my life, but I don’t see it coming anytime soon,” the 31-year-old told Variety in an interview published Dec 17. “I think the next few years, hopefully we’ll be exploring different forms of art, and I think acting is feeling like home right now.”
“I am appreciative for [my fans’] understanding,” she added. “I’m so grateful for the ways in which we’ve grown together over this whole journey with Wicked. But music will always be a part of my life.”
Though Ariana released her latest album Eternal Sunshine in March, she hasn’t toured since wrapping the Sweetener World Tour in December 2019. However, she has been defying gravity while promoting Wicked alongside Cynthia Erivo. And according to the Grammy-winner, her focus for the next decade will continue to look different than what fans are used to.
“I’m going to say something so scary, it’s going to scare the absolute s--t out of my fans and everyone,” Ariana told Bowen Yang on his Las Culturistas podcast in November. “I love them, and they will deal, and we will be here forever. I’m always going to make music. I’m always going to go on stage. I’m always going to do pop stuff, I pinky promise, but I don’t think doing it at the rate that I’ve been doing for the past 10 years is where I see the next 10 years.”
“I think I love acting; I love musical theater,” she continued. “Reconnecting with this part of myself…I love comedy, and it heals me to do that—finding roles to use these parts of myself.”
Ariana’s decision to step away from music and focus on Wicked—which is set to release part two Nov. 25, 2025—has been more than alright. After the film broke opening weekend, domestic and live-action musical box office records, Ariana is going into awards season with her first Golden Globe nomination for Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture.
