Fiona and Emma from Diversity Tennis CIC reflect on another successful annual 'Diversity Day' at The Hive Leisure Centre in Ely.

Last Sunday's event enabled everyone who took part to join in at whatever level suited them.

The fun got off to a great start with keen players turning up earlier than expected and getting involved straight away.

Thankfully, the three coaches - Fiona, Emma and Paul - were supported by some fantastic helpers, and before we knew it the sports hall was buzzing with activity.

Players tried out our sports wheelchairs for a game of wheely tennis under the guidance of Paul.

Visually-impaired tennis was tried by players brand new to tennis, using our tennis balls with bells so players could hear where the balls were instead of seeing them.

The colourful fish and catching nets, rainbow tails, hand pads and scoops were all used with laughter and enthusiasm by SEND players and their families who all really got engaged and wanted more.

Our tots corner engaged children as young as two with tennis-themed games.

And, of course, our flagship walking tennis shows that you don’t need to be at Wimbledon to see a competitive and exciting tennis match!

We spoke individually to as many people as we could and have ideas for future events and sessions that will further improve lives using tennis.

Walking tennis and SEND sessions start again at the Hive in the week beginning  September 16.

Diversity Tennis CIC is an Ely-based community interest company dedicated to providing tennis to absolutely anyone, whatever their challenges.

We rely on donations to operate, so if you are interested in helping fund one or more sessions or would like to experience what inclusive tennis can do for you, please get in touch at [email protected] or see our website at www.diversitytennis.co.uk

Diversity Tennis would love to hear from you.

The event was made possible by the generosity of the Hive and Daniel Lawrence Plumbing, Heating and Electrical, who sponsored the day.
