Vicky McClure has shared her support for her former Line of Duty co-star Adrian Dunbar, who will make his musical theatre debut next month.

It was announced earlier this year that Dunbar will star in an adaptation of Cole Porter's classic musical Kiss Me, Kate, which is set to run from June 4 to September 14 in London’s Barbican Theatre.

During a recent appearance on The One Show, McClure was asked by host Alex Jones if she always knew that Dunbar – who she starred opposite on Line of Duty from 2012 until the show came to an end in 2021 – was "a triple threat".

"Oh I've always known. He's always had the moves, the grooves, the voice. He's a complete triple threat," McClure replied.

"He's gonna be amazing. I saw him on Saturday and he's absolutely loving rehearsals, he's really getting into it. I might actually make a trip to see it."

Kiss Me, Kate, which follows the production of a musical version of William Shakespeare's The Taming of the Shrew, will see Dunbar play the role of director and producer Fred Graham. He’ll also star as Petruchio in the play within the play.

"I'm so delighted to be returning to the stage this summer to my spiritual home at the Barbican – where I started my career at The Guildhall School of Music and Drama – especially in this Cole Porter classic with the wonderful creative team including Bart Sher and Stephanie J Block," the actor said on the show’s announcement in January.

Tony Award winner Block will play Fred's ex-wife, Lilli Vanessi, and heroine Katherine in the play's Shakespeare production.

"How wonderfully scary and challenging and thrilling. I cannot wait to dive into this timeless classic and put a fresh stamp on it alongside the incredible Adrian Dunbar," Block said in a statement of her own.
