SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (Dakota News Now) -It’s Sanford International Week at Minnehaha Country Club. The top players in the world over age 50 will be here in Sioux Falls including all of the past champions.

Steve Stricker won the first event and has since proven it wasn’t a fluke, winning again.

Over the years Jack Nicklaus has been here for an exhibition and each fall there’s a few new names like Ernie Els that reach that milestone birthday and are eligible to play on the Champions Tour.

Even the Tournament Director Davis Trosin is excited each year to see who’s coming and watch these incredible players in person.

And he’s very proud of the Sanford International winning the Fan First award.

Davis Trosin, Tournament Director says, “So when we got that Fan First Award that really validated. We always thought we had something special here, but when the folks in Ponta Vedra recognized that amongst all the different 26 events on our tour it probably was a lot of validation that we’re on the right path for continuin g to do that. But we’re not stopping at that success. We want to keep improving each year so that Fan First Award is ours to keep right.”

This was actually the first sporting event with fans after the pandemic.

Actual play starts Friday and runs through Sunday when the champion will be crowned. Most of the top players on the Schwab Cup money list will be here and all the past champions.
