Kim Kardashian reveals one of her sons has rare autoimmune disorder where patches of skin lose pigment

Kim Kardashian has shared that one of her and ex-husband Kanye West's sons has a rare skin disorder.

The 43-year-old mother-of-four — who shares North, 11, Saint, eight, Chicago, six, and Psalm, five, with West, 47 — revealed that one of her boys has the skin condition vitiligo.

'It came from my mom, went to me, and I passed it on in a different form to my son, who has vitiligo very mildly,' the Kardashians star said on Monday's episode of the She MD podcast.

Vitiligo is a 'chronic autoimmune disorder that causes patches of skin to lose pigment or color', according to the National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases. 'This happens when melanocytes – skin cells that make pigment – are attacked and destroyed, causing the skin to turn a milky-white color', the institute's website states.

Model Winnie Harlow, who is a friend of Kim's, has it.

While the mogul, who suffers from psoriasis, did not specify which of her kids has the disorder, she did state that it is 'under control.'

'I didn’t know anything about it, but having to learn about it and figuring out where it came from and that it’s hereditary and just learning more and being able to share that [has been a blessing],' she told hosts Dr. Thaïs Aliabadi and influencer Mary Alice Haney.

The candid television personality also opened up about her kids having 'a little bit of eczema.'

Kardashian has dealt with psoriasis since around age 30, and is the only one of mom Kris Jenner's six children to inherit the condition.

'I’ll do anything,' she said about treating the uncomfortable flareups. 'I’ve tried special herbs, the holistic way, a celery juice diet for six weeks, every topical cream, every soap from natural to unnatural.'

One old episode of Keeping Up with the Kardashians even saw the billionaire seek out sister Kourtney Kardashian's breast milk to quell her patchy, itchy skin.

As recently as this past January, Kim detailed a 'painful' outbreak on her leg.

'Not gonna lie — this is painful. Not sure what my triggers are. I haven't changed my diet. I've tried everything! Psoriasis sucks,' she shared in an Instagram Story at the time.

What is Vitiligo?

A chronic autoimmune disorder, vitiligo 'causes patches of skin to lose pigment or color', according to the the National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Disease.

This occurs when the skin cells that produce pigment - called melanocytes - come under attack and are destroyed, prompting the skin to turn a shade of milky-white.

'In vitiligo, the white patches usually appear symmetrically on both sides of your body, such as on both hands or both knees. Sometimes, there can be a rapid loss of color or pigment and even cover a large area,' according to the institute.

The condition can begin developing at any age and anyone can get it. Many affected have noted that the patches began occurring before they reached the age of 20, according to the the institute. It can also begin early in childhood.

'A person with vitiligo occasionally may have family members who also have the disease. Although there is no cure for vitiligo, treatments can be very effective at stopping the progression and reversing its effects, which may help skin tone appear more even,' the instute states.

Vitiligo can impact the skin on any part of the body - even the hair and inside of the mouth, according to the Mayo Clinic.

Vitiligo is not life-threatening and is also not contagious.

Kim and West tied the knot in 2014 and she filed for divorce in February 2021. It was finalized in November 2022.

On the latest episode of her family's Hulu series The Kardashians, Kim shared that she's finally implemented stricter rules for their four kids.

'This is my most important job. I can’t have anyone run over me,' she affirmed to her younger sister Khloe Kardashian, 40.

It came after the multihyphenate saw a therapist who suggested she 'take down screen time.'

'I’ve just changed a lot of little things around my house. I’m basically turning into Kourtney and Khloe,' she later said in a confessional interview, comparing herself to her siblings.
