'It's really good. It's a really important film to us.

'I only wanted to do it if we could make it amazing. I really love this movie.'

In June 2022, Uma Thurman and Henry Golding joined the cast of the superhero sequel, alongside returning cast members Theron, KiKi Layne, Matthias Schoenaerts, Marwan Kenzari, Luca Marinelli, Veronica Ngo and Chiwetel Ejiofor.

The sequel will be helmed by Victoria Mahoney, after Gina Prince-Bythewood stepped down from the role.

Theron plays the lead role of warrior Andromache of Scythia, and the plot once again comes from Greg Rucka and Leandro Fernandez's graphic novel series.

The first movie followed a team of immortal mercenaries on a revenge mission.

In 2020, Theron admitted she and other cast members were keen to make a sequel after the motion picture proved popular with audiences on the streaming service.

She said: 'We're still pushing this one out.

'Let's have a little resting period, but just given the fact that all of us really want to do it, I'm sure when it's the right time, we'll start the conversation.'

In 2021 she gushed about The Old Guard.

The original movie was released on Netflix in early July 2020, which was a big hit with both fans and critics alike.

When asked last July if there was talk of a sequel, Theron said, 'We’re still pushing this one out.'

'Let’s have a little resting period, but just given the fact that all of us really want to do it, I’m sure when it’s the right time, we’ll start the conversation,' she added.

'It’s pretty nutty, right? It’s pretty crazy,' Theron added, though

wasn't thinking about how big the audience could be while making the film.

'I’m not that brave,' she added with a laugh. 'I don’t want to hear predictions. No, thank you.'
