Kamala Harris has agreed to debate Donald Trump on September 10, the date agreed to by President Joe Biden back in May. While ABC News is scheduled to host the event, Trump has accused ABC News of being biased against him, and said he wants a debate to take place hosted by Fox News. “I have agreed to the previously agreed upon September 10 debate. [Trump] agreed to that previously,” Harris told reporters on Thursday. “Now, here he appears to be backpedaling, but I’m ready, and I think the voters deserve to see the split screen that exists in this race on a debate stage, and so I’m ready. Let’s go.”
A bundle of streaming services Disney+, Hulu, Max Bundle from Disney Entertainment and Warner Bros. Discovery is now available in the U.S. on each of the platform’s websites for $16.99/month with ads and $29.99/month without ads, representing a 38% savings compared with purchasing the services separately. In support of the launch, a coordinated, cross-platform national marketing campaign kicked off July 25, focused on each streamer’s collection of TV series, films and characters.
Nominations for The 45th Annual News & Documentary Emmy Awards were announced Thursday by The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS), with CNN leading all networks with 39 nods. The awards will be presented in two ceremonies: News Categories – Wednesday, September 25 at 7:30p and Documentary Categories – Thursday, September 26 at 7:30p. The News & Documentary Emmy Awards will be presented live at the Palladium Times Square in New York, and will be streamed live on NATAS’ dedicated viewing platform and via The Emmys apps.

“13 Days in Ferguson,” a primetime special looking at the protests following the 2014 police shooting of a young Black man, will air Monday, August 9 at 10p on CBS. The special features Cedric The Entertainer, a St. Louis area native who grew up next to Ferguson, reuniting with his longtime friend, retired lead task force officer Captain Ron Johnson.
The first two episodes of Apple TV+’s first German-language series, “Where’s Wanda?,” will debut globally Wednesday, October 2, followed by a new episode every Wednesday through November 13.
Imagicomm’s “Cowboy Way” FAST channel is rebranding as “Western Bound” on September 3, featuring original programming from Western-themed cable network INSP, including original reality series, “The Cowboy Way,” “Turquoise Fever” and “Ultimate Cowboy Showdown,” as well as scripted dramas like “Wild West Chronicles,” “Into the Wild Frontier,” “The Tall Tales of Jim Bridger,” and “ELKHORN.” The channel will also feature movies from Imagicomm Entertainment’s library of original content.

Fiber broadband service provider Brightspeed has reached an agreement with MyBundleTV, launching the latter’s personalized recommendation tool Find My Bundle and its suite of marketing tools and resources to help customers navigate the streaming marketplace. Brightspeed customers also have access to a co-branded version of MyBundle’s recently launched mobile app.
The Design Network has reached a distribution agreement with Hulu for its array of original home and design programming. Hulu subscribers can stream content from TDN’s library of home design and lifestyle content, including “The Reveal,” “Tiny BNB,” and “Dream Room in a Day,” as well as new seasons of “A-List Living” and “The Vision Maker.” This is The Design Network’s largest video-on-demand deal to date.
Video streaming in the US market is saturated, reaching 96% or 124 million households and growing just 1% quarter-on-quarter, according to Kantar’s latest Entertainment on Demand data. US households now subscribe to an average of 4 paid streaming services and ad supported video services are driving growth, with AVoD and FAST both growing their user base by 3% in the quarter. SVoD saw its user base decline by 0.6%. Sports are driving growth in streaming, with the fastest growing services including ESPN+ and DAZN, while Prime Video, Samsung TV Plus, and ESPN+ saw the greatest absolute growth in number of subscribers over the quarter. Netflix’s ad-supported tier grew subscribers by 2%, while its ad-free offering shrank 2% quarter-on-quarter.

Three out of five advertisers (61%) using CTV/OTT will increase spending, with an average increase of 21%, according to the new “2024 CTV/OTT Advertiser Survey” released by Advertiser Perceptions and Premion. According to the study, spending increases are being driven by the ability to achieve full-funnel objectives (41%), reach a highly engaged opt-in audience (40%), and precision audience targeting (38%). Among those increasing their CTV/OTT ad spend in 2024, 74% are reallocating budgets from digital, social media, or linear TV, while one in four (26%) are tapping into new ad budgets to fuel this growth. The study also finds that more than half (56%) of CTV/OTT budgets are now primarily controlled by integrated/hybrid buying teams, indicating a growing shift towards a unified TV buying approach across linear TV and digital advertising teams.
Nielsen’s content data business, Gracenote, said its contextual CTV categories will be available on Peer39 partner DSP platforms for the first time, enabling programmatic CTV ad buys. Additionally, Gracenote has tapped Magnite as the first SSP to support and scale these new CTV categories. Publishers including Cineverse, DIRECTV Advertising, Philo, Tastemade and Xumo can enhance their programming with Gracenote Contextual Video Data, which describes individual TV shows and movies to provide more visibility and transparency for media buyers who want additional signals around content.
The Coalition for Innovative Media Measurement and the Television Board of Advertising issued new guidelines for local TV aimed at achieving reliable, stable and accurate post analysis where the projected rating is compared with the measured rating after an ad runs. The Post Analysis Guidelines is the first of three co-funded projects co-developed by CIMM and TVB to support the local marketplace. The recommended guidelines are as follows:
– A four-week aggregation and/or aggregation of units for post analysis – no day/date-based post analysis should be used.
– A 90% posting threshold – which refers to the sensitivity of the comparison between the projected rating and the measured rating.
– A four-week aggregation and/or aggregation of units is recommended for all markets regardless of methodology where variability is 50% or greater.
– Flexibility is recommended for special event, one-time programs or tentpole programs such as Super Bowl, Academy Awards and sports playoffs.
– For programs with smaller audiences and sample sizes, greater aggregation may be needed.
Clinch has partnered with MetaRouter to provide advertisers a cookieless, privacy-compliant solution to easily track and forward web behavioral events, including click data, from an advertiser’s website to Clinch for decisioning and insights. Both partners said the collaboration means advertisers can collect user signals and events server-side, addressing browser limitations on data while ensuring user privacy is maintained across all technical systems.
RETAIL MEDIA
Advertisers continue to struggle with retail media networks, according to a survey by the Association of National Advertisers, with 55% of marketers emphasizing the need for RMNs to meet advertiser measurement standards. Other challenges, according to the survey, entitled “Retail Media Network: Optimism Tempered with Caution,” include citing attribution to sales (48% of respondents) and the timeliness of data and analytics (40% of respondents).

Premier League football club Newcastle United has selected Endeavor Streaming to deliver its direct-to-consumer streaming offering, enabling fans to stream live coverage of The Magpies’ upcoming pre-season friendlies and exclusive content such as player interviews, highlights, full match replays and original documentaries.
Toyota has partnered with independent media company For Soccer on two local youth soccer club donations in Fort Worth, Texas and Los Angeles. “La Pelota Nos Mueve,” started last year, formed part of Toyota’s efforts during the Concacaf Gold Cup to support local soccer clubs nationwide, with a special focus given to empowering Latina girls. In Fort Worth and Los Angeles, Toyota provided donations of soccer equipment to support players and coaches of the Downtown LA Soccer Club (DTLA) and Monterrey Rayados. Three other soccer clubs have received donations: Garland Tigres (Dallas), Las Vegas Diversity FC (Las Vegas), and KSA del Deporte (Los Angeles). Toyota will showcase the initiative on Toyota Latino social media channels on July 28, National Soccer Day.

Paramount+ UK and MTVE Studios reality series, “Dating Naked UK” will premiere August 23, hosted by Rylan Clark.
ITV Studios has acquired a majority stake in Hartswood Films (“Douglas Is Cancelled”). Based in London and Cardiff, Hartswood Films was founded in 1979 by Beryl Vertue, making it the longest established scripted producer in the UK.
Cineflix Rights has closed several deals with UK broadcasters for scripted and factual content covering true crime and history, leading off with the Paramount+ acquisition of crime dramas “The Girl in the Video,” and “Abducted Off the Street: The Carlesha Gaither Story.” On the factual front, Cineflix said it presold new true crime series “Spring Break Murders” to A+E Network’s Crime+Investigation, which has also picked up “Somebody’s Hiding Something.” Sky has acquired “Murder Uncut” and Channel 4 has bought returning series “RPA: Royal Prince Alfred Hospital” and “Killer Cases.”
Fred Media recently made several factual program deals with Australia’s Foxtel (season 12 of “Bondi Vet” and season 4 of “Paramedics” for its Real Life channel); TVNZ (seasons 4 and 5 of “Emergency” and season 5 of “Paramedics”); UK’s More4 (season 2 and Season 5 of “Emergency” – renamed “The Emergency Ward”); and Poland’s StudioMed TV (“Emergency” season 2, “Bondi Vet” season 10 and “Lee Chan’s World Food Tour”).
