Parťáka mu zabili před očima – a to se neodpouští. Detektiv Sykes chce dostat vrahy za každou cenu. Ti však patří k mimozemšťanům, kteří na Zemi získali před několika lety azyl. A dodnes jsou pro většinu lidí velkou neznámou... Seržant Matthew Sykes projíždí se svým parťákem Dougem losangeleskou čtvrť Lebkounů. Jsou to právě tři roky, co přistáli v roce 1991 v Los Angeles. Nejprve byli drženi v karanténě, ale nyní tu žijí spolu s původními obyvateli. Jejich loď přepravovala trestance. Lebkouni jsou geneticky upraveni tak, aby se snadno přizpůsobili jakémukoli prostředí. Mají dvě srdce a chtějí-li se opít, stačí jim kyselé mléko. Matt je nemá rád a nijak se tím netají. Právě když to s Dougem znovu probírá, dojde v blízkém obchodě k přepadení. Policisté vidí dva Lebkouny v dlouhých černých pláštích, kterak zastřelili majitele obchodu Cecila Portera. Matt jednoho lupiče zastřelí, dalšího pronásleduje. Doug je ale v přestřelce zabit. Matthew si za nového partnera překvapivě vybírá Lebkouna, prvního, který se stal detektivem. I když se jmenuje Samuel Francisco, začne mu říkat George. Tento Lebkoun je velice ukázněný a vždy slušný. S postupem vyšetřování se proto Mattův negativní postoj k "návštěvníkům" začne pomalu měnit… (oficiálny text distribútora)
