Meryl Streep and Martin Short are back to doing what they do best: making superfans think they’re dating despite insisting they are just friends. Hot off the heels of these two holding hands at the premiere of Only Murders in the Building, they showed up to the 2024 Emmys (separately this time) to reunite inside and buddy up next to each other.
Meryl and Martin kicked off dating speculation earlier this year due to a fleet of cute moments but have been steadfastly denying they are anything more than platonic pals. Back in January 2024, a rep for Martin told The Messenger (via Us Weekly), “They are just very good friends, nothing more.” Then a few weeks later, Martin himself said “We’re not a couple. We are just very close friends.”
He was a little more reflective in August though, when People asked about dating speculation and he said, “It’s always interesting. Show business relationships and spec. She’s fabulous. There’s no one who doesn’t adore her.”
