SAN FRANCISCO, Mar 18, 2024 — Today, Common Sense Media announced a new addition to its Board of Directors: Cyrus Vance, former District Attorney of New York County, Global Chair of the Cybersecurity Practice at Baker McKenzie, and co-founder of New York City's Cyber Critical Infrastructure Task Force. Vance will support Common Sense's efforts to build a healthier digital landscape for kids and families, with a particular focus on advocating for safer cybersecurity practices and tech industry accountability.

"With Cy's help, Common Sense will be able to increase the support we provide families, educators, and policymakers with invaluable guidance on cybersecurity risks and advocacy on legislation that keeps families safe," said James P. Steyer, founder and CEO of Common Sense Media. "Cy is a strong addition to our bench of policy and advocacy experts, and a timely one, too, as AI continues to transform our daily lives and present consequential implications to our critical infrastructure, democracy and the upcoming election season."

"Common Sense's role as a megaphone for the challenges facing kids and families, as well as smart legislative solutions to address those issues in New York, nationally, and globally, has never been more important," said Vance. "I look forward to supporting the organization's success and helping them deliver on their mission to shape a society that prioritizes the best interests of children."

Alongside Vance, Common Sense is also proud to have recently added Geraldine Laybourne, founder of Oxygen Media and co-creator of Nickelodeon, to its Board. An influential TV entrepreneur and tireless advocate for children, Laybourne is passionate about eradicating generational poverty and will help Common Sense expand access to its resources for underserved communities around the world.

The work that Common Sense is doing around cybersecurity and artificial intelligence is made possible by Craig Newmark Philanthropies and other supporters. For more information, please visit www.commonsense.org.
