OMNOVA Solutions, a global manufacturer of emulsion polymers and additives, has unveiled its latest innovation for the coatings industry: PLIOTEC LEB 18, a new binder for formulation of low exudation and low efflorescence masonry coatings.
PLIOTEC LEB 18 builds on OMNOVA’s strong record of providing differentiated technologies for the masonry paint sector. PLIOLITE resins have been the standard in exterior masonry coatings for many years, Hydro PLIOLITE emulsions, introduced approximately 10 years ago quickly gained market acceptance because of their proven outstanding adhesion without use of primers, one of the main shortcomings of water-borne coatings, according to the company.
OMNOVA’s new Low Exudation Binder has all the advantages of current best-in-class binders, but incorporates technology that effectively minimizes the amount of water soluble materials that can leach from the coating.
Using this new binder, formulators can produce environmentally preferred semi-thick coatings with built-in flexibility and crack bridging ability, that resist early rain, UV and dirt pick-up, with the added bonus of excellent resistance to surfactant leaching and efflorescence.
PLIOTEC LEB 18 has great versatility in terms of formulation and application, so it offers paint manufacturers the opportunity to develop new exterior masonry coatings that significantly reduce the possibility of unattractive surface staining occurring under certain unfavorable drying conditions.
