After several years of spending every day with our four-legged friends, it’s little wonder that we now can’t imagine a staycation without them. Of course, this makes sense when you think about the wide-open plains of Norfolk or the perfectly-ploddable mountainscapes of the Scottish Highlands, but a city sojourn can feel a little less fluffy-family-member-friendly. Not our capital though, with the lungs of the city outlined by parkland (from Richmond Park to Regent’s) and more restaurants, cafés and even workout classes (hello, doga) now more welcoming than ever, finding a dog-friendly hotel in London no longer mean you need compromise. Below, you’ll find our pick of the establishments ready and waiting to roll out the red carpet for both two-legged and four-legged residents.

Two enormous elephants in top hats and bow ties peep over a red awning on a Soho corner. In a city where hotels tend to be either
palatial grandes dames or discreet unmarked townhouses, Martin Brudnizki’s latest 57-room project is an attention-seeker. His trademark opulent interiors – clashing leopard print and zebra stripe; DJ booths jutting up against silk walls; flamingo-pink parrots
floating on green panelling – draw comparisons to his other projects, especially Annabel’s, but Broadwick Soho is a one-off. That’s partly down to the vision of owner Noel Hayden, a tech entrepreneur inspired by the 1970s Bournemouth hotel he grew up in, playing Space Invaders on the arcade machine while his glam mother and magician father entertained guests. That vaudeville spirit survives here. A barman whips up cocktails in the gold-dipped café-bar that spills onto the street, and there’s art by Francis Bacon, Bridget Riley and Andy Warhol on the way to rooms that feel almost pared back compared to the textural riot elsewhere. Wallpaper embroidered with elephants and tigers shimmers in the chandelier light. The enormous brass minibar is shaped like an elephant, handmade by craftsmen in Jaipur. The rooftop bar, Flute, has cork panelling, sequins, geometric lines and stellar views. The vibe is sultrier at the basement restaurant Dear Jackie, named after Hayden’s mother, with crimson walls, intimate blue booths and a menu that transcends the trad Italian vibes. Finally, a hotel worthy of the madcap fun of Soho.
Simon Upton3. NoMad London, Covent Garden
Clawfoot tub fans (of which we know there are many here) arise, for the NoMad Hotel in London knows both how to give good bathrooms and also ensure that the peaceful post-soak feeling can be carried with you through the corridors and lounges here. Set in the midst of Covent Garden’s cobbled streets, the unashamedly dramatic interiors centre around an oversized, Art Deco arboretum, a mix between a Moroccan riad and chic Manhattan courtyard. Here, diners eat, drink and make merry in the hotel’s beating heart. The deal here is that small dogs are allowed to stay with you for free – just let them know you want to bring your furry friend in advance. As expected, you can't leave your furry friends unattended – but with the green spaces of the capital's parks within easy reach, there would be little need to anyway.
Camilla D’Addario4. The Hoxton, Southwark
If you haven’t heard of The Hoxton group before then it’s likely that you are running in the wrong circles and should get out immediately. The coolest hotel brand of the moment, with outposts across the world’s most chic cities, has several properties peppering the capital, but their Southwark arrangement is surely one of the most sought-after addresses south of the river. With landmark titans like the Tate Modern, the Globe and Borough Market just a short walk along the Thames Path, the immediate neighbourhood too, boasts some of London's most characterful pubs cheek-by-jowl with cutting-edge bars, cafés and indy shops. The dog-friendly rooms here sit across the first and second floors and accept pets free of charge, as well as providing them with a dog bowl, bed, treats, toys and a dog-friendly guide to the local area (you might have to help them make sense of it though). Though pooches aren’t allowed in the main restaurant, they can join you to recline in the ground-floor bar or in the comfy (and quieter) mezzanine bar, where you can also order food.
5. The Ned, The City
This Bank addition to the Soho House group opened in 2018 to much fanfare, and little wonder, as its rooftop pool, extravagant dining hall (formerly the Banking Hall when the building was Midland Bank’s HQ) combining a variety of eateries, subterranean vault bar and sexed-up Edwardian grandeur made it the hottest new hotel and club in the city. And though there are now newer and younger introductions since, The Ned has managed to retain an untouchable place in the hardened hearts of city-dwellers. Just steps from Bank station, the hotel is perfectly placed for those looking to explore far and wide, and the dog-friendly rooms here mean that you needn’t traverse the concrete-clad streets sans your four-legged family members.

Mary Quincy6. St Pancras Renaissance Hotel, King's Cross
Originally designed by George Gilbert Scott in the 1860s to support the influx of trade chugging into London via train, its striking gothic shell survived a destruction plea over a century later and instead became a Grade I listed building. Since then, the now Marriott-owned property has loomed large over those arriving into and departing from the capital, and - thanks to the recent regeneration project in the area - is now just a few steps away from the upmarket boutiques and achingly-cool eateries of Coal Drops Yard and Granary Square (complete with colour-changing fountain and floating canal library). Inside, the hotel’s hallways are lined with Gothic arches and vaulted, ribbed ceilings, and each room is decorated with an elegant mix of old-school splendour and modern sophistication; complete with an ornately-tiled spa in the basement. Dogs can stay in all of the hotel’s rooms and suites for free and all come with a dog bowl and bed for your pooch.

ChrisTubbs7. The Grove, Hertfordshire
Straddling the outskirts of the city and the Hertfordshire countryside, The Grove coaxes you away from the hustle and bustle of central London (just 18-minutes away) and down its impressive, undulating drive toward a sort of hybrid break. Guests are just as likely to head to the West End for a musical as they are to immerse themselves in the bluebell woods that meander around the perimeter of the 300-acre estate. The famed Glasshouse restaurant offers extensive - and surprisingly elegant – buffet dining throughout the week and weekend, while the Sequoia Spa houses a 24-metre swimming pool under a wooden beam-clad roof. Dogs are a staple here and can sniff at the meticulously manicured gardens on a lead or roam freely around the wilder parts of the grounds – that also includes a golf course, segway track and various outdoor activity outposts, including falconry and archery. As night draws in, find them dozing beside the open fire in the bar area or being treated to copious cuddles by the concierge’s pet sitting service.

Charlotte Huco8. Hotel Café Royal, Piccadilly
A favourite of the country’s best-heeled bunch during fashion week and other key diary occasions, Hotel Café Royal enjoys a lofty position slap-bang in the middle of the action of Piccadilly Circus. With some of the city’s best shops on your doorstep, Regent’s Park only moments away and the myriad theatres and foodie delights of the West End only a short meander, the hotel’s concierge service (through which you can book a pet sitting or dog walking service) allows you the freedom to explore with, or without, your pooch. Inside the hotel – with its own holistic wellbeing centre and stretched pool – dogs are able to roam free within the rooms and suites, as well as tuck into their own pawsecco alongside you at the on-site bars and restaurants.

9. Treehouse London, Marylebone
One of London’s quirkiest, best-positioned hotels (both laterally and vertically), the Treehouse Hotel London doesn’t just offer a place for your pup to rest their head, but an entire Ulti-Mutt Staycation package. With its own Canine Concierge, your dog’s every single whim and wish will be accommodated for (good luck keeping up with that on your return home), and four-legged-friendly rooms kitted out with dog beds and bowls plus a dog-friendly mini-bar and room-service menu from award-winning pet-food company Lily’s Kitchen. One-on-one dog walking is also available on request (Regent’s Park is just a few minutes away) – that’s if you can tear them away from the nature-inspired interiors and wood-clad guestrooms. Though, don’t worry, the hotel hasn’t forgotten its human residents in all of this, head to The Nest rooftop bar for sundowners with 360-degree views of the city after tucking into experimental Mexican dishes at the Madera restaurant.

Thomas Alexander10. South Place Hotel, East London
A spirited addition in the heart of the capital, South Place Hotel is a glamorous option that feeds off both the nearby hipster homing areas of Spitalfields and Shoreditch, while adding its colourful take on smart business casual to the mix. Here, hounds are more than just furry room additions but are rather treated as valued guests, able to dine with their well-heeled owners at the Chop House restaurant or take in sundowners (read: water) in the Secret Garden rooftop bar – with a retractable roof so that you needn’t miss a minute of sought-after sunshine – or 3Bar. Though for those wanting to take full advantage of the hotel’s own Michelin-starred dining experience, dogs can enjoy a snooze in the room or head out for a walk with the on-hand concierge team.
