Review: Four Seasons Hotel Seoul

Smack in the center of Seoul’s north bank, the city’s traditional seat of power, the best rooms at this ultra-sophisticated newcomer (opened in 2015) have wonderful views from floor-to-ceiling windows of the entire Gyeongbokgung Palace and the green, mountainous hills of Samcheong and Bukhansan parks—a relief from Seoul’s relentless, faceless skyscrapers—and is within walking distance to the Cheonggyecheon stream. Containing an extraordinary collection of contemporary Korean art and pottery in both public spaces and rooms, carpeting and textiles derived from ancient patterns, and dramatic floral arrangements, the hotel is full of panache—with very grown-up undertones, appealing to serious businesspeople more than movie stars. Add top-notch food, an unmarked speakeasy called Charles H., and whopping, three-story, 57,500-square-foot spa complex including saunas, steam rooms, and hot and cold baths.
