Several Northeast Ohio school districts closed Tuesday due to threats
CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) - Several Northeast Ohio school districts closed on Tuesday and all canceled classes due to safety concerns.
Cleveland Arts and Social Sciences Academy
In Cleveland, the Cleveland Arts and Social Sciences Academy was closed for “the safety and security of staff and scholars.”
No further information was released.
Lorain City School District
Lorain High School and the administrative central office were also closed Tuesday.
Lorain police said they were notified by the FBI around 4 a.m. Tuesday that a threat against the school had been posted on social media.
Officers said they immediately contacted the district and began to investigate.
Detectives with the department obtained a confession from a 12-year-old girl just after 7 a.m. Tuesday.
The girl claimed to have written the post as a joke, police said.
The suspect was released after police confirmed she had no means to follow through with the threat and she has received a summons to appear in juvenile court for inducing panic, according to a news release from Lorain police.
Clearview Local Schools
Clearview Local Schools officials in Lorain County closed Clearview High School and Durling Middle School due to a bomb threat made against the high school.
Superintendent Dr. Jerome Davis said the threat was made on social media Monday evening, but not noticed until Tuesday morning.
Lorain County Sheriff deputies deployed bomb-sniffing dogs to search both buildings, which share the same campus, but nothing was found.
“We take every threat seriously and prioritize the safety of our students and staff. Thanks to the swift actions of local law enforcement and school officials, we were able to ensure the safety of everyone on our campus,” said Dr. Davis.
Clearview High School and Durling Middle School will re-open Wednesday.
