Gov. DeWine positive for COVID as illness starts fall surge a little early this year
CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) -Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine’s office announced today, he has tested positive for COVID-19.
According to a release DeWine started showing cold like symptoms on Monday, and his illness, “worsened slightly during the night,” and he will be working remotely.
The Ohio Department of Health is reporting cases of COVID-19 are starting to increase for what has become a normal late summer and early fall surge.
According to the state’s data, case over the past three weeks have gone from 5,963 ending the week of Aug. 1, then 6,660 case on Aug. 8, then 7,347 cases the week of Aug. 15.
In that same time period the number of hospitalizations in the state went from 141, to 192, to 238.
It should be noted that none of these numbers remotely compare to when COVID was at it’s peak in the state in January of 2022, when there were some 32,000 cases a day being reported.
All of this is consistent with what the state has seen over the past two late summer, but the number of cases in August this year are higher then last year.
