A new support group for families affected by addiction is launching in Burlington. This weekly group meeting will offer "education, guidance, support and fellowship for friends and families navigating the challenges of a loved one's addiction," according to a statement from the organization, The Family Restored.

The Family Restored Family Support Group will meet Tuesdays from 6 to 7 p.m. at the Turning Point Center on Winooski Avenue. Anyone affected by a loved one's addiction is welcome to attend, at no cost and with no preregistration required.

The Family Restored is a nonprofit organization "dedicated to strengthening and supporting families affected by addiction," according to the website. It was founded as a small support group in Portland, Maine, in 2011, and has expanded to eight brick-and-mortar locations throughout New England. The Burlington location is the first in Vermont. It is primarily run and facilitated by individuals in long-term recovery, providing firsthand accounts and insights from those who have shared or similar experiences overcoming addiction.

"By offering a support group led by those who have experienced addiction themselves, we aim to create a safe and compassionate space where families can share their experiences, receive practical advice and build a network of support," Executive Director Eric Girard said.

The Turning Point Center of Chittenden County is located at 179 S Winooski Ave. The Family Restored Family Support Group meets there every Tuesday at 6 p.m.
