Sunny weather returns after rainstorms, but will Burlington beaches be open?

Burlington Free Press

The forecast calls for sunny skies and high temperatures this weekend in the Burlington area, a welcome break from a week that saw rainstorms flood the state yet again.

With the return of mostly summer-like weather, many people might think to head the beaches along Lake Champlain. Unfortunately, some Burlington's beaches are closed as of Friday afternoon, mostly due to the high levels of e-coli bacteria in the water.

The National Weather Service forecast for Burlington calls for mostly sunney weather with a high near 85 degrees on Saturday, with a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 11am. The forecast for Sunday reads, "Sunny, with a high near 89."

A sign on Blanchard Beach at Oakledge Park warned Burlington beach-goers on Thursday, May 24, 2018, that a sewage spill has temporarily closed the area for recreational activities.
